How a medical aesthetic clinic in Singapore plans treatment

The difference between a medical aesthetic clinic and a beauty business is not the interior or the menu. It is that a registered doctor examines you, makes a diagnosis and takes responsibility for what happens next. A brown patch may be melasma, a sun spot, or a lesion that should be checked before any laser touches it. A heavy jawline may be muscle, fat or old filler. Each answer changes the plan, and some mean the right advice is a different treatment, a referral, or nothing yet.

At IN Eternity Clinic the order is always the same. Dr Sin Yong takes a history, examines the area at rest and in movement, and explains the likely cause. Pigmented lesions are looked at with a dermatoscope before treatment. Options are set out with what each can and cannot do, the recovery to expect and the risks, and the plan and its cost are written down before anything is booked. Treatments are not sold as prepaid packages, so each step is judged on how you responded to the last.

Singapore adds its own considerations. Most patients here have skin types III to V, which tan easily and are more prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation after heat or injury, so laser settings and intervals are chosen conservatively. When a concern is better handled by a dermatologist or a plastic surgery specialist, we say so and refer. For many people the most useful outcome of a first visit is a clear explanation and a smaller plan than they expected.

How to choose an aesthetic clinic in Singapore

There is no official ranking of aesthetic clinics in Singapore, and no clinic can fairly call itself the one to choose. What you can do is check a short list of facts before you pay for anything:

• Licence. The clinic should hold a Ministry of Health licence under the Healthcare Services Act. How to check a clinic licence shows the steps.
• Doctor. The doctor who examines you should be on the Singapore Medical Council register, and you should know who will perform the procedure. See aesthetic doctor in Singapore.
• Products and devices. Ask for the brand and model, and whether it is registered with HSA.
• Consultation and pricing. Expect an examination, a written plan and an explanation of what drives cost, without pressure to prepay.
• Aftercare. Ask who you contact if something worries you, and when you will be reviewed.

IN Eternity Clinic is a licensed medical clinic (MOH licence MDS/001/252) at 9 Scotts Road, #12-01 Pacific Plaza, a short walk from Orchard MRT. Every plan starts with a doctor’s assessment by Medical Director Dr Sin Yong, who holds an MBBS from NUS, MRCS (Edinburgh), an MSc in Aesthetic Medicine (University of London) and an MSc in Practical Dermatology (Cardiff University). The clinic is a designated DEKA Centre of Excellence, and consultations are in English or Mandarin. The consultation fee is waived with any medical treatment.

What makes a clinic “medical” is not the decor but who examines you and what they are allowed to do. Moles and pigment are checked with a dermatoscope before any laser; injectables are prescribed and placed by a doctor; and devices are registered with the Health Sciences Authority.
