In short

Under eye filler in Singapore is a small amount of soft hyaluronic acid placed deep along the tear trough, injected by a doctor, usually with a fine cannula, to soften a hollow that casts a shadow. It suits hollowing, not eye bags, pigment or puffiness, which filler can make worse. Swelling settles in about two weeks, results often last nine to eighteen months, and it can be dissolved.

What it is

What is under-eye filler?

Under-eye filler, also called tear trough filler, is a small amount of soft hyaluronic acid placed deep beneath the lower eyelid, usually on the bone along the rim of the eye socket, to soften a hollow that casts a shadow. The hollow runs from the inner corner of the eye down and outwards along the lid–cheek junction. When it deepens, light falls into it and the eyes look tired or dark even after a full night’s sleep.

It is a precise, low-volume treatment, injected by a doctor. The skin under the eye is among the thinnest on the body, the area moves with every blink and smile, and the tissue holds fluid easily, so the product, depth and amount all matter more than elsewhere. Done in the right person, it can make the eye area look rested. Done in the wrong person, it can make puffiness or eye bags look worse. The whole decision rests on telling those apart. Under-eye filler is one of the areas covered on dermal fillers Singapore.

Who it suits

Who is under-eye filler for, and who should avoid it?

Dark circles have several causes, and under-eye filler helps only one of them. The cause is confirmed at assessment, in different light and from different angles, before any filler is considered.

Many people have a mix. Filler is considered only for the hollow component, and only if the rest is addressed or absent.
What you seeLikely causeIs filler suitable? What usually helps instead
A groove or hollow that casts a shadow; looks worse under overhead lightTear trough hollowing (volume loss, bone and ligament anatomy)Often yes, if skin quality is reasonable—
A bulge under the eye that is bigger when looking upEye bags (orbital fat pushing forward)Usually no; filler can enlarge the look of the bagEye bag treatment or a surgical opinion
Brown or grey colour that stays in any lightPigmentationNoPigment-focused lasers and skincare; see dark eye circles treatment
Bluish or purple tint through thin skinVisible vessels and thin skinSometimes, very carefully; can worsen the tint if too shallowSkin thickening first, such as Rejuran Eye
Puffiness that varies day to day, worse in the morningFluid (oedema), allergy, salt, sleepNo; filler can hold more fluidTreat the cause; medical review if persistent
Swelling over the upper cheek below the hollowMalar oedema or festoonsNoSpecialist assessment
Very thin, crepey lower-lid skinSkin ageingRarely on its ownSkin boosters or energy-based tightening

Good candidates usually have a defined hollow, reasonably firm skin, no significant bags and no history of persistent under-eye swelling. A side-by-side of the non-filler options is in under-eye filler vs Rejuran Eye vs laser. If the concern is fine lines rather than a hollow, see under-eye lines and eye wrinkles.

Product and technique

How under-eye filler is done at IN Eternity Clinic

The fuller account of the hollow-versus-bag distinction, dark-circle types and technique is in tear trough refinement for hollows and dark circles.

“Under-eye filler fixes a shadow, not a bag. If the problem sticks out rather than sinks in, filler will make it bigger.”

Recovery

Under-eye filler recovery: swelling, bruising and when it settles

The area under the eye swells and bruises more readily than most of the face. Mild swelling for a few days is usual, bruising is possible, and the result looks most natural once swelling has settled, usually within about two weeks. Avoid rubbing the eyes, strenuous exercise, alcohol and saunas for a day or two, and sleep with the head slightly raised for the first nights.

A day-by-day account, including when make-up and contact lenses can be used and what is not normal, is in tear trough filler recovery: how long under-eye filler takes to settle.

Risks

Under-eye filler risks and side effects

Any change in vision after filler is an emergency: go to the nearest emergency department.
ProblemWhat it looks likeHow it is reduced or managed
Swelling that persistsPuffiness under the eye weeks later, often worse in the morningCareful candidate selection, low-water-binding gel, small amounts; hyaluronidase if needed
Tyndall effectA bluish tint where gel sits too close to the surfaceDeep placement; dissolved with hyaluronidase if it occurs
Lumps or a ridgeA visible line or bump along the lower lidConservative volume, review before adding more; correction if needed
BruisingPurple or yellow marks for several daysCannula technique; stopping some supplements beforehand if advised
Vascular occlusionPain, pale or dusky skin; very rarely, visual changeAnatomy-led technique, slow injection; hyaluronidase on site; emergency care

Hyaluronic acid under the eyes can last longer than many people expect, sometimes well beyond a year, partly because the area moves less than the lips. Results often last around nine to eighteen months, varying between people and products. That is useful when it is right and a problem when it is not, which is why amounts are small and the review matters. Previous under-eye filler is checked, sometimes with ultrasound, before more is added; see filler correction.

At assessment

What Dr Sin Yong looks for

  • Hollow or bulge. The lower lid is examined looking straight ahead and looking up; a bulge that grows on upward gaze is fat, not hollowing.
  • The light test. A shadow that changes with the angle of light is structural; colour that stays in every light is pigment or vessels.
  • Skin quality. Thickness and laxity of the lower-lid skin, and how it snaps back after a gentle pinch.
  • Fluid tendency. Morning puffiness, allergies and any swelling history, which make filler more likely to hold water.
  • The cheek. Whether a flattened midface is deepening the trough from below.
  • Previous treatment. Earlier filler, surgery or thread treatment around the eye.

Cost

Under eye filler Singapore: cost and what affects it

Cost depends on whether one or both sides need treatment, the amount of product (often a fraction of a syringe), whether the cheek is supported at the same time, staging and the review. IN Eternity Clinic gives a written quote after assessment; the consultation fee is S$120, waived with any medical treatment.

When this is not cosmetic

When under-eye changes are not cosmetic

Most dark circles and hollows are anatomy and ageing. Some under-eye changes need a medical opinion first.

Where any of these apply, a diagnosis comes first and referral is arranged where needed.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Does under-eye filler work for dark circles?

Only for dark circles caused by a hollow that casts a shadow. It does not treat pigment, visible vessels on their own or puffiness, and it can make eye bags look worse. The cause is confirmed at assessment before filler is considered.

How long does under-eye filler last?

Often around nine to eighteen months, sometimes longer, because the area moves less than the lips. It varies between people and products. Because it can persist, amounts are kept small and reviewed before any more is added.

Is under-eye filler safe?

It is a higher-care area with thin skin and a dense network of vessels near the eye. Risk is reduced by careful candidate selection, soft hyaluronic acid, a fine cannula, small amounts and a doctor injecting, with hyaluronidase on site. Any vision change afterwards is an emergency.

How long does swelling last after under-eye filler?

Mild swelling usually settles within a few days and the result looks natural within about two weeks. Persistent puffiness weeks later is not expected and should be reviewed, as it may mean the gel is holding fluid.

Can under-eye filler be dissolved?

Yes. Under-eye fillers at IN Eternity Clinic are hyaluronic acid, which can usually be broken down with hyaluronidase, a prescription enzyme kept at the clinic. This is one reason collagen stimulators are not used under the eyes.

What is the difference between under-eye filler and tear trough filler?

They are the same treatment. Tear trough is the anatomical name for the groove from the inner corner of the eye; under-eye filler is the everyday term. Both describe a small amount of soft hyaluronic acid placed deep to soften the hollow.

Who should not have under-eye filler?

People with significant eye bags, persistent under-eye swelling, festoons, very thin and lax lower-lid skin, active eye or skin infection, or who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Thyroid eye problems are assessed medically first.

How much does under-eye filler cost in Singapore?

It depends on the amount, whether one or both sides and the cheek are treated, staging and review. IN Eternity Clinic gives a written quote after assessment; the consultation fee is S$120, waived with any medical treatment. Published ranges from other clinics are shown on this page.
