Lutronic Clarity II: How the Device Works
The Lutronic Clarity II at IN Eternity Clinic: its wavelengths and features as the maker describes them, how they are matched to Asian skin, and who it may not suit.
WhatsApp to Enquire →Key facts ↓The Lutronic Clarity II is a laser hair removal platform with two true lasers: 755 nm Alexandrite and 1064 nm Nd:YAG, with cryogen cooling. At IN Eternity Clinic on Orchard Road, Dr Sin Yong chooses the wavelength for your skin type and hair, then plans a course timed to the hair cycle. The aim is long-term hair reduction.
- Maker and model: Clarity II, a Lutronic laser whose product page is published by Cynosure Lutronic, described as a dual-wavelength 755/1064 nm laser hair removal platform [1].
- Features listed: a 1 ms pulse for fine hair, cryogen cooling, and IntelliTrak roller delivery that fires at a set overlap as the handpiece moves [1].
- Both wavelengths work: in a randomised trial in skin types III and IV, long-pulsed Alexandrite and Nd:YAG both reduced leg hair at 18 months; combining them added no benefit and caused more pigment change and pain [3].
- Darker skin: a review of laser hair removal concluded that the longer 1,064 nm Nd:YAG wavelength suits pigmented skin, and that in-office lasers give durable hair reduction [2].
What is the Lutronic Clarity II?
The Lutronic Clarity II is a laser hair removal platform that carries two separate lasers, a 755 nm Alexandrite and a 1064 nm Nd:YAG, in one system.
Clarity II is a Lutronic laser. Its product page is now published by Cynosure Lutronic, and the Clarity II trademark belongs to Lutronic Corporation [1]. Two wavelengths matter because skin and hair differ. Melanin in the hair absorbs the light, but so does melanin in the skin, and the balance between the two decides whether a setting is effective, safe, or both.
| Feature | What Cynosure Lutronic states | What it means in practice |
|---|---|---|
| Wavelengths | 755 nm (Alexandrite) and 1064 nm (Nd:YAG) | Two ends of the spectrum on one platform, chosen per person and area |
| Pulse | A 1 ms pulse described for fine hair | A short pulse for thinner hair where the skin allows |
| Cooling | Cryogen cooling, with no need for gel | The skin surface is cooled as each pulse fires |
| IntelliTrak | Roller-based delivery with automatic overlap | Even coverage of large areas such as legs and the back |
| Spot size and power | Larger spot sizes, higher power and faster repetition (no figures given) | Large areas are covered more quickly |
| US indications listed | Hair reduction on skin types I to VI; also benign pigmented lesions, vascular lesions and razor bumps (pseudofolliculitis barbae) | At IN Eternity Clinic it is used for hair reduction and razor bumps |
A platform with both wavelengths does not make treatment stronger. It means the setting can follow the person: one wavelength for an underarm on lighter skin, another for the legs of someone who has just returned from the beach.
How does the Clarity II remove hair?
Laser light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair and conducted down to the follicle, where the heat damages the structures that regrow hair.
This is selective photothermolysis: the target, the pigmented hair shaft and bulb, absorbs more light than the skin around it, so the follicle can be heated while the skin is protected by the right wavelength, pulse and cooling. Only hairs in the active growth phase respond at any one session, which is why treatment is a course spaced weeks apart rather than a single visit.
The 755 nm Alexandrite wavelength is absorbed strongly by melanin, which suits finer or lighter-brown hair on lighter skin. The 1064 nm Nd:YAG reaches deeper and is absorbed less by the pigment in the skin, which makes it the safer choice for darker or tanned skin [2]. In a randomised trial, both wavelengths reduced hair substantially, and stacking them added side effects without adding benefit [3]. The value of a dual-wavelength platform is choosing the right one, not firing both.
The accurate term is long-term hair reduction. Most people see a large, lasting reduction, and some need occasional maintenance; see does laser hair removal last.
Which treatments use the Lutronic Clarity II at IN Eternity Clinic?
All laser hair removal at IN Eternity Clinic runs on the Clarity II, for the face, body and intimate areas, and for ingrown hairs and razor bumps.
| Treatment or area | How the Clarity II is used | Read more |
|---|---|---|
| Laser hair removal (all areas) | Wavelength, spot size and settings chosen for skin type, hair colour and coarseness; a course timed to the hair cycle | laser hair removal in Singapore |
| Clarity II treatment page | Areas, session spacing, what each feature does and how settings change from fair to tanned skin | Clarity II laser hair removal |
| Underarms | Coarse, dark hair that usually responds well; can reduce shadowing | underarm laser hair removal |
| Bikini and Brazilian | Settings adjusted for the darker skin typical of these areas | Brazilian laser hair removal |
| Ingrown hairs and razor bumps | Fewer, finer hairs mean fewer hairs that curl back into the skin | ingrown hairs and razor bumps |
A course is often six to eight sessions, spaced about four to six weeks on the face and six to eight weeks on the body, with redness that usually settles within hours. Facial hair, especially in women, can be driven by hormones, and new coarse growth may need a medical check alongside laser.
How does the Clarity II differ from a diode laser or IPL?
A diode laser uses one wavelength, around 810 nm, and IPL is a broad band of filtered light rather than a laser; the Clarity II offers two distinct laser wavelengths.
| Lutronic Clarity II | Diode laser | IPL | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Light source | Two lasers: 755 nm Alexandrite and 1064 nm Nd:YAG | One laser, around 810 nm | Filtered broad-spectrum flash lamp, not a laser |
| Fine or lighter hair on light skin | 755 nm suits it | Moderate | Variable |
| Darker or tanned skin | 1064 nm is absorbed less by skin pigment | Possible with care | Generally a higher risk of burns and pigment change |
| Choice per person | Either end of the spectrum, chosen per area | One wavelength for everyone | Filters, but less precise targeting |
Each approach can reduce hair; the difference is how far the setting can be matched to your skin and hair. The detail is in diode vs dual-wavelength laser hair removal and laser hair removal vs IPL vs SHR. IN Eternity Clinic uses the Clarity II for hair reduction.
Is the Clarity II safe for Asian and darker skin?
Yes, with the right wavelength: the 1064 nm Nd:YAG is absorbed less by skin pigment, so it is the usual choice for darker or tanned skin.
Most skin in Singapore is type III to V, and many people tan easily. On darker skin, the 755 nm Alexandrite carries more risk of blistering and pigment change, so 1064 nm with longer pulses is used; on lighter skin with finer hair, 755 nm may work better. Skin type is rechecked at every session, because a recent holiday or outdoor sport changes it.
- A test patch may be advised for darker skin or a recent tan.
- Shave the day before; avoid waxing, plucking or threading for about four weeks beforehand, because the laser needs the hair root in place.
- Avoid sun and self-tan on the area between sessions, and use sunscreen on exposed areas.
- Tell the team about new medicines, as some increase light sensitivity.
What is normal afterwards, and what is not, is covered on the Clarity II treatment page.
Who may not suit treatment on the Clarity II?
White, grey or red hair, a fresh tan, active infection, pregnancy, and hair growth needing a medical check are the usual reasons to wait or choose differently.
- White, grey or red hair. It lacks the pigment the laser aims at, so no wavelength is expected to work well.
- A fresh tan or sunburn. Treatment is postponed or done at 1064 nm with conservative settings.
- Active infection, cold sores or inflamed skin in the area.
- Pregnancy. Elective laser is usually postponed; see pregnancy and breastfeeding safety.
- New, rapidly increasing coarse hair, especially on the face, which may have a hormonal cause worth checking.
- Tattoos or moles in the area, which are avoided or covered.
- Expecting every hair to go for good. The realistic aim is long-term reduction, sometimes with maintenance.
Fine, light-brown hair responds less well than dark, coarse hair and may need more sessions.
What Dr Sin Yong checks before using the Clarity II
- Your skin type and any recent tan, checked again at every session.
- Hair colour, thickness and density in each area.
- Whether hair growth could have a hormonal or medical cause.
- Medicines or conditions that increase light sensitivity or affect healing.
- Ingrown hairs, razor bumps or dark marks that need treating alongside.
- Tattoos, moles or skin conditions in the treatment area.
General clinical observations used at consultation; they describe what is checked, not any individual result.
What happens at a Clarity II session?
After a skin and hair check, the area is cleaned and the laser is passed over it with cryogen cooling; small areas take minutes, large areas longer.
- Assessment. Skin type, hair and any medical causes are checked, and the wavelength and settings chosen.
- Preparation. The area is shaved beforehand and cleaned. Numbing cream is optional for sensitive areas.
- Eye protection. Goggles are worn throughout.
- Treatment. Pulses are delivered with cryogen cooling; IntelliTrak rolling is used for large areas. Most people feel a quick snap and a cold spray.
- Straight after. Redness and small bumps around follicles usually settle within hours. Avoid heat, the gym and perfumed products for the rest of the day.
- Next session. Usually four to six weeks later on the face and six to eight weeks on the body, as the next wave of hairs enters the growth phase.
Small areas such as the upper lip or underarms usually take about 10 to 15 minutes; full legs or a back about 45 to 60 minutes.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Lutronic Clarity II available in Singapore?
Yes. The Lutronic Clarity II is available at IN Eternity Clinic, 9 Scotts Road, #12-01 Pacific Plaza, Singapore 228210, near Orchard MRT, where it is used for laser hair removal on the face, body and intimate areas. Treatment follows an assessment of skin type and hair by Dr Sin Yong.
Who makes the Clarity II?
Clarity II is a Lutronic laser; its product page is now published by Cynosure Lutronic, and the Clarity II trademark belongs to Lutronic Corporation. The platform carries a 755 nm Alexandrite laser and a 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser, with cryogen cooling and IntelliTrak roller delivery.
How long do Clarity II laser hair removal results last?
It gives long-term hair reduction rather than removal of every hair. Most people see a large, lasting reduction after a course, and some need occasional maintenance, especially on the face or where hormones drive hair growth.
How many Clarity II sessions will I need?
Most areas need about six to eight sessions, spaced about four to six weeks on the face and six to eight weeks on the body, because only hairs in the growth phase respond at each session. Facial and hormonally driven hair may need more.
Does Clarity II laser hair removal hurt?
Most people describe a quick rubber-band snap followed by a cold spray from the cryogen cooling. Sensitive areas such as the upper lip and bikini line feel sharper, and numbing cream can be used there. Settings are adjusted for comfort during the session.
Is the Clarity II safe for dark skin?
Yes, with the 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelength, longer pulses and cryogen cooling, which together reduce the heat taken up by skin pigment. A recent tan is still a reason to wait or lower settings, and a test patch may be advised. Skin type is rechecked at every session.
Alexandrite or Nd:YAG: which wavelength will I have?
The 755 nm Alexandrite suits lighter skin with finer hair; the 1064 nm Nd:YAG suits darker or tanned skin. Dr Sin Yong chooses per area and may use different wavelengths on different parts of the body. Firing both on the same area is not done routinely, as it adds side effects without adding benefit.
Does the Clarity II help ingrown hairs?
Usually, yes. Fewer and finer hairs mean fewer hairs that can curl back into the skin, which can ease razor bumps on the beard area, neck and bikini line. Inflamed bumps are calmed first, and dark marks left behind are treated separately.
