In short

Non-surgical eye lifting treats the cause behind heavy-looking eyes: anti-wrinkle injections can lift a low brow tail a few millimetres; Thermage FLX eyes or focused ultrasound tighten mildly hooded skin; conservative filler softens a tear-trough hollow; and laser or skin boosters address dark circles and crepey lines. True ptosis and large fat bulges need an eyelid specialist. At IN Eternity Clinic, Dr Sin Yong identifies which causes you have first.

Key facts
  • Hooded lids: brow-lift effect with anti-wrinkle injections plus radiofrequency or ultrasound tightening for mild hooding.
  • Eye bags: filler only for hollows; fat bulges usually need a surgical opinion.
  • Dark circles: treated by type: laser for pigment, boosters for thin skin, filler for shadow.
  • Crow’s feet: anti-wrinkle injections for movement lines; skin-quality treatment for etched lines.
  • Referral: true ptosis, heavy skin folds and large fat bulges go to an oculoplastic specialist.

The basics

What is an eye lifting treatment?

“Eye lift” is used for several different things: raising a heavy brow, tightening loose upper-lid skin, smoothing eye bags, filling a hollow under the eye, softening crow’s feet, or the surgical operation, blepharoplasty. Non-surgical eye lifting covers the first five, using small doses of anti-wrinkle injections, radiofrequency or focused ultrasound, conservative filler and skin-quality treatments. Each treats one cause, and most people have more than one.

The eye area is also where the limits of non-surgical treatment are clearest. A lid that sits low because its lifting muscle has weakened, or a large bulge of fat under the eye, will not respond to an injection or a device. Part of an eye assessment at IN Eternity Clinic is saying so, and arranging an eyelid specialist opinion where that is the better route.

Causes

Droopy eyelids, hooded eyes, eye bags or dark circles: what is causing it?

The table maps the commonest concerns to their usual cause and the option that fits. It is a guide; the cause is confirmed by examining the eyes at rest, looking up and with the brow gently lifted.

Guide only. Several causes often coexist and are treated in sequence.

Brow lift

Non-surgical brow lift with anti-wrinkle injections

The brow is held up by the forehead muscle and pulled down at its outer end by part of the ring muscle around the eye. Small, precisely placed doses of anti-wrinkle injections into that downward-pulling segment let the brow tail rise a few millimetres, which can open the upper lid and make hooding look lighter. The change appears over three to five days, peaks at about two weeks and usually lasts around three to four months.

Placement matters. Injections in the forehead of someone who relies on that muscle to hold heavy lids open can make hooding worse, and product that spreads towards the lid-lifting muscle can cause a temporary droop. This is why the brow, the lids and the forehead are examined together before any dosing is planned. See anti-wrinkle injections.

Hooded eyes

Thermage eyes and HIFU for hooded eyes

Loose, crepey upper-lid skin can be tightened with heat. Thermage FLX with its eye tip delivers monopolar radiofrequency to the skin of the upper and lower lids, with protective eye shields in place; collagen contracts and then remodels over two to six months, firming the lid skin. Studies of radiofrequency on the eyelids have reported measurable tightening and brow elevation in many patients, though the degree varies. More detail is in Thermage eyes for eyelids and hooding.

Shallow focused ultrasound placed along the brow and forehead, away from the eye itself, can add a little support to the brow. Neither treatment removes a fold of excess skin; they suit mild hooding and skin laxity. Combining a brow-lift injection with skin tightening is often gentler and more natural than pushing any single treatment harder.

Under-eye

Eye bags and tear troughs: lifting the lower eyelid area

Under-eye “lifting” usually means one of three things. A tear-trough hollow that casts a shadow can be softened with a small volume of soft hyaluronic acid filler placed deep, usually by cannula; too much product here shows quickly as puffiness. Loose, crinkled lower-lid skin responds to radiofrequency or laser tightening. A true fat bulge is structural: filler around it tends to make the area look heavier, and a lower blepharoplasty opinion may serve you better.

Because these look similar in the mirror, the under-eye is examined at rest, looking up and in overhead light before anything is suggested. The options are set out in eye bag removal in Singapore and under-eye filler, with recovery described in tear trough filler recovery, day by day.

“Most people asking for an eye lift are describing five different problems with one phrase. Lifting a brow will not lift a lid, and no device lifts a lid whose muscle has weakened.”
— Dr Sin Yong, Medical Director, IN Eternity Clinic
Dark circles

Dark circles: why lifting alone does not lighten them

Dark circles are often part of the reason people want their eyes “lifted”, but they have three main causes that respond to different things. Brown pigment needs gentle laser over a course and strict sun protection. Bluish vessels showing through thin skin respond to skin-quality treatment such as Rejuran Eye. A hollow casts a shadow that only volume softens. Lifting or tightening on its own does none of these.

The types, and how to tell which you have, are covered on dark eye circle treatment. In practice, a plan for tired-looking eyes often stages volume first, skin quality next and pigment laser last, so each step can be judged on its own.

Lines

Crow’s feet and crepey skin around the eyes

Lines that appear only when you smile come from the orbicularis muscle and soften with anti-wrinkle injections, placed so that the smile still looks natural. Lines that remain at rest are etched into thinning skin; they need skin-quality work as well, such as polynucleotide boosters made for the eye area, Rejuran Eye, or gentle laser, because relaxing the muscle alone leaves the crease. See crow’s feet treatment.

Daily sunscreen and sunglasses outdoors matter especially around the eyes, because the skin is thin and Singapore UV is high all year.

Referral

When does eye lifting need an eyelid specialist?

An oculoplastic (eyelid) specialist opinion is the better route when:

A droop that appears over hours or days, especially with double vision, a change in pupil size, eye pain or headache, needs same-day medical attention rather than an aesthetic appointment. Dr Sin Yong writes a referral letter where surgery would serve you better, and IN Eternity Clinic can still help afterwards with skin quality and pigment.

Planning

Eye lifting downtime, timing and cost

Typical only. Plans are set and reviewed individually.
OptionUsual downtimeWhen change showsHow long it usually lasts

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can hooded eyes be lifted without surgery?

Mild hooding often can, usually by lifting the brow tail with anti-wrinkle injections and tightening lid skin with radiofrequency such as Thermage FLX eyes. The change is modest. Heavy folds of skin and true ptosis usually need surgery by an eyelid specialist.

What is the difference between a brow lift and an eye lift?

A brow lift raises the eyebrow, which can open the upper lid indirectly. An eye lift usually means treating the eyelids themselves, by tightening skin or, surgically, removing excess skin or fat. Many people with hooding have both a lowered brow and loose lid skin.

How long does a non-surgical eye lift last?

It depends on the method. A brow-lift effect from injections usually lasts three to four months. Radiofrequency or ultrasound tightening commonly lasts around a year, and tear-trough filler many months. Ageing continues, so maintenance is planned individually.

Can anti-wrinkle injections make my eyelids droop?

Occasionally. If product spreads to the muscle that lifts the eyelid, the lid can sit lower for some weeks before recovering. Careful mapping, small doses and not rubbing the area afterwards reduce the risk.

Does Thermage work on the eyelids?

It can tighten loose, crepey eyelid skin and give a modest brow and lid lift over several months, using a dedicated eye tip with protective shields. It does not remove a heavy fold of skin or correct ptosis.

Can eye bags be lifted with filler?

Only if the “bag” is really a shadow from a hollow below it. Filler softens the hollow so that less shadow forms. If the bag is a fat bulge, filler around it usually makes it look heavier, and a surgical opinion may be better.

Is an eye lift treatment suitable for men?

Yes. The causes and options are the same, though men often have thicker skin, heavier brows and more prominent eye bags. Brow shaping is kept flatter in men to look natural, and this is planned at assessment.
