In short

Semi-permanent makeup (permanent makeup, cosmetic tattoo) places pigment in the upper skin to define brows, tint lips or create the look of hair on the scalp. It fades: brows and lips over one to three years, scalp over several. IN Eternity Clinic offers eyebrow embroidery, lip blush and SMP, with medical history and skin assessed first and laser correction in the same clinic.

The basics

What is semi-permanent makeup?

Semi-permanent makeup, also sold as permanent makeup, cosmetic tattoo or micropigmentation, places pigment into the upper dermis with fine needles to add colour or definition that would otherwise be drawn on each day. In Singapore it is most often done on three areas: the brows (eyebrow embroidery, including microblading and powder brows), the lips (lip blush) and the scalp (scalp micropigmentation).

“Permanent” and “semi-permanent” describe the same procedure. Pigment sits shallower than in a body tattoo, so the body and the sun break it down over months to years; brows and lips usually need a refresh within one to three years, and scalp pigment within a few years. Some pigment can remain long after it stops looking good, which is why removal is part of the conversation from the start. IN Eternity Clinic offers eyebrow embroidery, lip blush and scalp micropigmentation. The plan and your medical suitability are assessed at consultation under Medical Director Dr Sin Yong, and you are told at that consultation who will carry out each step.

Why have cosmetic tattooing in a medical clinic?

Most cosmetic tattooing in Singapore is done in beauty studios, and many do careful work. A medical clinic adds checks and options that matter when something is unusual or goes wrong:

IN Eternity Clinic is a licensed medical clinic (MOH licence MDS/001/252) at Pacific Plaza, Orchard Road.

Suitability

Who should wait before semi-permanent makeup?

These are reasons to plan, not refusals. Safety at IN Eternity Clinic explains how assessments work.

“A cosmetic tattoo is still a tattoo. The questions that matter are medical ones: your skin, your history, and who will manage it if it heals badly.”
— Dr Sin Yong, Medical Director, IN Eternity Clinic
Healing

Healing and touch-ups at a glance

All three follow the same pattern: the colour looks stronger at first, crusts or flakes for about a week, looks faded or patchy for a short time, then settles over four to eight weeks. The touch-up is planned once the first session has fully healed. Heavy sweating, swimming, saunas and sun are limited while the surface heals, and picking pulls pigment out. Day-by-day timelines are on each guide: brows, lips and scalp.

Risks

Is cosmetic tattooing safe? Risks to know

Reactions are uncommon when hygiene and technique are good, but they are the reason a medical history comes first.

Correction

Can permanent makeup be removed?

Usually it can be lightened. Picosecond and Q-switched lasers break pigment into particles the body can clear, over several sessions; see pico laser. Cosmetic inks need more care than body tattoos, because iron oxide, titanium dioxide and pink or flesh tones can turn darker when lasered, so a test area is treated first. Complete clearance is not always possible. Conservative first sessions keep later correction simpler.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between permanent and semi-permanent makeup?

None in technique. Both are cosmetic tattooing with pigment in the upper dermis. “Semi-permanent” reflects that it fades over one to three years for brows and lips, and over several years for the scalp.

How long does semi-permanent makeup last?

Brows usually one to three years, lips one to two years and scalp micropigmentation several years, with touch-ups. Sun, oily skin and exfoliating skincare shorten it.

Is cosmetic tattooing safe?

Complications are uncommon with good hygiene and technique, but infection, allergy, granulomas, cold sores and colour change can occur. A medical history and sterile single-use technique reduce the risk.

Can semi-permanent makeup be removed?

Usually it can be lightened with picosecond or Q-switched laser over several sessions after a test area. Complete clearance is not always possible.

Can I have an MRI with permanent makeup?

Yes. A few people feel brief warmth or swelling in tattooed areas during MRI. Tell the radiographer, but do not avoid a scan you need.

Does IN Eternity Clinic offer eyebrow embroidery, lip blush and SMP?

Yes. IN Eternity Clinic offers all three. Medical suitability and the plan are assessed at consultation under Medical Director Dr Sin Yong, and laser correction is available at the same clinic.

How much is permanent makeup in Singapore?

Published Singapore prices on this page range from a few hundred dollars for a brow or lip session with touch-up to a few thousand dollars for scalp plans. IN Eternity Clinic quotes after assessment; the consultation fee is S$120, waived with any medical treatment.
