Brightening treats what makes skin look dull or patchy: pigment, texture, dehydration and redness. Medical Director Dr Sin Yong works out which dominates, then plans the steps.
WhatsApp to Enquire →Key facts ↓Skin brightening treatment aims for even, luminous skin at your natural colour, not a lighter shade. It treats what makes skin look dull or patchy: uneven pigment with laser toning or pico laser, defined spots with spot treatment, rough texture with peels or facials, dehydration with skin boosters, and redness with a 675 nm laser. Most plans combine two or three steps over a few months, with daily sunscreen.
Skin brightening treatment aims to make skin look more even and luminous at its natural colour. Skin looks bright when light reflects evenly from it: the surface is smooth, the outer layer is well hydrated, melanin is evenly spread and background redness is low. Skin looks dull or patchy when any of these breaks down, through uneven pigment, built-up surface cells, dehydration, redness or sun damage, and usually through several at once.
Many people search for “skin whitening”. The medical aim at IN Eternity Clinic is different: not to lighten your natural skin colour, which is set by genetics, but to remove what is making it look uneven or flat. That distinction matters for safety. Treatments that try to lighten normal skin, such as strong bleaching creams, can damage the skin, and some products sold online for this purpose contain mercury, steroids or prescription ingredients that are not declared on the label.
Brightening at IN Eternity Clinic is planned by Medical Director Dr Sin Yong after working out which contributor dominates in your skin. The condition behind most requests, dull and uneven tone, is described on dull skin and uneven tone.
| What makes skin look dull or uneven | Clue | Treatment at IN Eternity Clinic |
|---|---|---|
| Diffuse uneven pigment | Patchy, slightly darker areas without sharp edges | Laser toning (DEKA TORO) or pico toning in a planned course |
| Defined brown spots: sun spots, freckles | Spots with edges you can trace | Pigment laser spot treatment: age spot removal, freckles removal |
| Melasma | Symmetrical patches on cheeks, forehead, upper lip | Melasma treatment: sun protection, topical care, gentle toning |
| Post-acne marks | Brown or red marks where spots were | Acne marks treatment with topical care first |
| Built-up surface cells, rough texture | Flat, slightly grey look; rough to touch | Chemical peels or a Hydrafacial |
| Dehydration | Tight, fine crisscross lines; make-up sits poorly | Skin boosters or the needle-free Deep Synergy Booster with ultrasound delivery |
| Redness | Pink background, flushing, visible vessels | The 675 nm 少女光 laser once the skin is calm |
| Sun damage overall | A mix of spots, texture and fine lines | A combined plan over months |
Brightening plans usually combine a tone step, a texture step and a hydration step, spaced so that each supports the next. The Korean idea of “glass skin” is a version of the same goal; how that plan is built is described in glass skin treatment in Singapore.
Laser toning is the most common laser for brightening. A pigment laser is passed over the whole face at low energy with a large spot, several times, and repeated across a course. It breaks up a little excess pigment at a time and evens out background tone without visible injury to the skin. Toning can be done with Q-switched (nanosecond) or picosecond pulses; the difference is explained in pico toning vs laser toning.
Defined spots such as freckles and sun spots respond faster to spot settings than to toning, and a plan often uses both. Pico laser in Singapore describes the clinic’s picosecond platforms.

Intravenous glutathione drips and injections are widely marketed for skin lightening in the region. IN Eternity Clinic does not offer glutathione injections or drips for skin brightening.
The reasons are evidence and safety. Glutathione is an antioxidant made naturally in the body, and it can influence how melanin is made in laboratory studies. Clinical evidence that injected glutathione brightens skin is limited, consisting mainly of small studies with short follow-up, and a review of glutathione as a skin lightening agent described the injectable use as lacking evidence on effective dose, duration and long-term safety, with reported adverse effects. Products used in some settings are unregistered or compounded, and repeated intravenous treatment carries its own risks.
Oral and topical glutathione are also sold. Their effect, if any, is modest and slow, and they are not a substitute for treating the cause of uneven tone. The clinic’s wider position on injectables it does not use is set out in treatments we choose not to offer.
“Brightening is not lightening. The aim is your own skin colour, evenly spread and reflecting light well, not a shade you were not born with.”
| Helps | Why |
|---|---|
| Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen, reapplied outdoors | UV and visible light drive most uneven pigment in Singapore |
| A gentle cleanser and simple moisturiser | A calm, hydrated surface reflects light evenly |
| Vitamin C, niacinamide, azelaic acid | Support even tone with low irritation for most skin |
| Retinoids, introduced slowly | Improve cell turnover and texture |
| Prescription lightening creams, only after assessment | Useful for some pigment; need supervision and limited courses |
| Avoid | Why |
|---|---|
| Lightening creams of unknown origin bought online | Some contain mercury, steroids or undeclared prescription ingredients |
| Steroid creams on the face without medical advice | Thin the skin and can cause redness and acne-like eruptions |
| Over-exfoliating with scrubs and acids | Damages the barrier, which makes skin look duller and more reactive |
| Chasing a lighter colour with stronger and stronger products | Can cause irritation, darkening or uneven pale patches |
General clinical observations used at consultation; they describe what is checked, not any individual result.
Most uneven tone is cosmetic. Some changes in skin colour are signs of a medical condition and are investigated before any brightening plan.
These are referred for diagnosis first. Underarm darkening specifically is covered in underarm whitening in Singapore.

Some steps show quickly: a medical facial or a laser toning session gives a fresher look within days. Lasting change in tone builds over a course of several sessions across two to three months, and texture and hydration improve over a similar period with skin boosters and peels. Melasma, if present, is a long-term condition and is managed rather than cleared. Progress is judged on standardised photographs of your own skin in the same light at each review.
Results hold with daily sun protection, a gentle routine and maintenance sessions every few months, set at review. Anything that raises sun exposure, such as outdoor sport or travel, shortens how long results last.
Cost depends on the causes being treated, which steps are combined (laser toning, spot treatment, peels, facials, boosters), the number of sessions and the maintenance interval. A plan for mild dullness is shorter than one for melasma with sun spots. The plan and its cost are set out after assessment, so you only pay for steps your skin needs. Factors that drive pigment treatment cost are explained in pigmentation removal cost in Singapore. The consultation fee at IN Eternity Clinic is S$120, waived with any medical treatment.
No. Skin whitening is the term many people search for, but the medical aim is brightening: even tone and better light reflection at your natural colour. Natural skin colour is set by genetics; trying to lighten it with strong products risks irritation, darkening or damage.
It depends on the cause. Diffuse uneven pigment responds to laser toning, defined spots to pigment laser spot treatment, rough texture to peels and facials, and dehydration to skin boosters. Most plans combine two or three steps, chosen after assessment.
No. IN Eternity Clinic does not offer glutathione injections or drips. Evidence that injected glutathione brightens skin is limited, with uncertain dosing and long-term safety, and some products used elsewhere are unregistered.
Usually a course of several sessions spaced one to a few weeks apart, then maintenance at longer intervals. The number depends on the cause and your skin, and is reviewed during the course. Toning is not continued indefinitely.
Usually little. Laser toning leaves pinkness for a few hours, facials none to minimal, and skin boosters small bumps for a day or two. Spot treatment of pigment leaves darkened spots and fine crusts for about a week.
Yes, with care. The aim is evenness at your natural colour, which suits every skin tone. Laser energy is lower, intervals longer and sun protection stricter in skin types IV to V, because they are more prone to post-inflammatory darkening.
Some are not. Products sold for lightening have been found to contain mercury, steroids or undeclared prescription ingredients. Use products from reputable sources, and bring anything you are unsure of to your consultation.
Results hold with daily sunscreen, a gentle routine and maintenance every few months. Sun exposure, hormonal changes and melasma can bring unevenness back, so maintenance is part of the plan.
Often, yes. Many plans pair a tone step, such as laser toning, with a hydration step, such as a skin booster, because well-hydrated skin reflects light more evenly. The order and spacing are set so each step can be judged.
