In short

This pigmentation hub lists every IN Eternity Clinic page on pigmentation: melasma, freckles, sun spots, acne marks (PIH), lip and underarm pigment, pico laser, laser toning and tattoo removal. Identify the type first, because it decides the treatment and the darkening risk in Asian skin. Each link opens a full page reviewed by Dr Sin Yong.

Key facts
  • Pigment lasers on site: Fotona StarWalker PQX (picosecond and Q-switched) and DEKA TORO (pico and Q-switched), plus the FSX laser (thulium and erbium glass).
  • Check before laser: a brown spot is examined before it is lasered; a spot that is changing, bleeding or unlike the others is assessed first and may not be lasered at all.
  • Type decides plan: sun spots and freckles often respond in a few sessions, while melasma is usually controlled over time rather than cleared once.
  • Asian skin: skin types III to V carry a higher risk of darkening after inflammation, so settings and spacing are chosen conservatively.
  • Who assesses: Medical Director Dr Sin Yong, IN Eternity Clinic, 9 Scotts Road, #12-01 Pacific Plaza (MOH licence MDS/001/252).

Which page should you read first?

Start with the page that matches what you already know. If you are unsure of the type, the concern page sorts it out; if you know the type, go straight to the treatment.

How to choose

How do you choose a pigmentation treatment?

Choose by type, not by device: the same laser can help one brown mark and worsen another.

How to choose a pigmentation page. A starting point only: the type is confirmed in person, and many faces have more than one type at once.

Two people with “pigmentation” can need opposite plans. Sun spots sit high in the skin and often lift after one to a few laser sessions; melasma is driven by sun, heat and hormones and can darken if treated too hard. That is why the type comes first, and why every plan is decided at assessment.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Which pigmentation page should I read first?

If you do not know what your marks are, start with pigmentation concerns by type. If you already know, go to the treatment page for that type, such as melasma treatment or freckles removal. The main guide to pigmentation removal in Singapore covers all the common types on one page, with sessions and darkening risk for each.

Can pigmentation be removed for good?

It depends on the type. Sun spots and freckles can often be lightened substantially, but new ones may form with further sun exposure. Melasma is a long-term tendency, so it is usually controlled rather than cleared once, and it can return with sun, heat or hormonal change. Upkeep and sun protection are part of every plan.

Is pico laser safe for Asian skin?

Pico laser is widely used in Asian skin, but skin types III to V darken more easily after inflammation, so settings, spacing and aftercare matter. At IN Eternity Clinic the pigment is typed first, a cautious first session is planned where risk is higher, and fresh tans and unstable melasma are reasons to wait.

Why does the type of pigmentation matter?

Each type sits at a different depth and has a different driver. Sun spots respond to targeted laser; melasma reacts to heat and needs gentler, combined care; acne marks fade once the acne is controlled. Treating the wrong type with the wrong settings can make pigmentation darker, so the type is confirmed before any plan.

How many sessions does pigmentation treatment take?

It varies between people and types. Sun spots often need one to three sessions; freckles a few; melasma and tattoos usually a longer course with maintenance. The number is estimated at assessment from the type, depth, area and your skin type, and reviewed as the skin responds.

What should I do before a pigmentation consultation?

Avoid tanning in the weeks before, bring a list of the creams and medicines you use, and note when the marks appeared and whether they change with sun or hormones. Photographs from earlier years can help. Dr Sin Yong examines the skin, and any spot that looks unusual is checked before laser is considered.
