In short

Eyebrow embroidery is cosmetic tattooing of the brows: hair-like strokes (microblading), soft powder or ombre shading, or a combination. Powder usually suits oily skin; strokes suit drier skin. Expect a touch-up at six to eight weeks and fading over one to three years. At IN Eternity Clinic, medical history and skin are assessed first, and laser lightening is available if needed.

Key facts
  • What it is: cosmetic brow tattooing in the upper dermis; it fades, so it is semi-permanent.
  • Techniques: microblading (strokes), powder or ombre (shading), combination.
  • Skin type: powder suits oily skin; strokes suit normal to dry skin.
  • Touch-ups: perfecting session at 6 to 8 weeks, then colour boosts as it fades.

The basics

What is eyebrow embroidery?

Eyebrow embroidery is cosmetic tattooing of the brows. Fine needles place pigment, usually iron-oxide based, into the upper dermis to add shape, fill gaps or imitate extra hairs. In Singapore “embroidery” covers the whole family of techniques: microblading, powder or ombre brows and combinations. Elsewhere the same work is called brow tattooing or semi-permanent makeup.

Because pigment sits shallower than in a body tattoo, the body and the sun break it down faster, so brows fade over one to three years. “Permanent makeup” is a category name, not a promise. Embroidery does not grow hair, and unexplained brow loss should be checked medically first. Eyebrow embroidery is offered at IN Eternity Clinic. Your medical history, skin and brow plan are assessed at consultation under Medical Director Dr Sin Yong, and you are told at that consultation who will carry out each step.

Techniques

Microblading, powder (ombre) or combination brows: which suits you?

Guide only. Fading varies with skin type, sun, skincare and pigment.
TechniqueHow it is doneLookUsually suitsTypical fade
Microblading (hair strokes)Hand tool with a row of fine needles makes shallow strokesCrisp individual “hairs”Normal to dry skin, fine pores, a no-make-up lookAbout 1 to 2 years; strokes soften

The shape is drawn from your own brow bones, hair direction and proportions, checked in a mirror and agreed before any pigment goes in. Brow position is linked to the lids and forehead; heavy lids are worth discussing first, see eye lifting treatment.

Skin type

Eyebrow embroidery for oily skin vs dry skin

Skin type is the main reason the same technique heals differently. Oily skin with larger pores spreads pigment slightly, so fine strokes can blur into a haze and fade sooner; Singapore’s heat and sweat add to this. Powder or ombre shading usually lasts better there. Normal or dry skin with fine pores holds crisp strokes longer.

Flaky or inflamed brows (eczema, seborrhoeic dermatitis) are calmed first, and in darker skin types any tendency to post-inflammatory pigmentation is noted when choosing tone.

For men

Men’s eyebrow embroidery in Singapore

Men usually want brows that look denser and neater, not “done”: a flatter, straighter shape, soft edges and no sharp front. Because many men have oily skin, a light misty shading between existing hairs is common. Scars through the brow and gaps from old injuries can often be camouflaged. Men considering pigment for thinning hair can read scalp micropigmentation in Singapore.

Suitability

Who eyebrow embroidery suits, and who should wait

Often a good fit: sparse, uneven or over-plucked brows; people who fill in their brows daily; small healed scars; anyone in stable health who can follow two weeks of aftercare.

Better to wait or plan differently:

Most of these can be planned around once the doctor has seen your skin and history.

Comfort

Is eyebrow embroidery painful?

Most people describe scratching or vibration rather than sharp pain, but it is uncomfortable and sensitivity varies. Numbing cream is applied for 20 to 30 minutes beforehand and topped up between passes. Many people feel more in the days before a period or when tired. A first session takes about two hours, much of it spent mapping the shape.

“Brow embroidery is a tattoo, only a shallow one. I would rather plan for how it fades than promise that it will not.”

Healing

Eyebrow embroidery healing: what to expect day by day

Some patchiness after the first session is expected, especially in oily skin; that is what the touch-up is for.

How long it lasts

How long does eyebrow embroidery last? Touch-up schedule

Most brows fade noticeably over one to three years. Strokes fade first; oily skin, sun, exfoliating skincare and smoking shorten it. As iron-oxide pigment fades it can warm towards red or orange, or cool towards grey.

Typical intervals; timing follows how your brows fade.
WhenPurpose
6 to 8 weeks after the first sessionPerfecting touch-up, usually part of the plan
About 12 to 18 monthsColour boost for hair strokes (earlier in oily skin)
About 18 to 30 monthsColour boost for powder or ombre brows

Old pigment is checked before each boost. Layering new colour over shifted colour year after year is a common cause of brows that end up too dense or the wrong shade.

Risks

Risks of eyebrow embroidery: infection, allergy, granuloma, colour change, MRI

At IN Eternity Clinic a reaction is assessed by a doctor in the same clinic, one practical difference from a beauty studio.

Correction

How to lighten or remove eyebrow embroidery

Brows that have turned red, orange, grey or blue, or a shape that no longer suits, can usually be lightened with picosecond or Q-switched laser over several sessions spaced weeks apart, on the same platforms used for tattoo removal in Singapore and pico laser.

Brow inks need extra care: iron oxide and titanium dioxide can turn darker when lasered, so a small test area comes first. Brow hairs may lighten for a while, and complete clearance is not always possible. Starting conservatively makes any later correction easier.

Market prices

How much does eyebrow embroidery cost in Singapore?

Cost depends on the technique, whether a touch-up is included, artist level at studios that price by seniority, correction of old pigment, and single sessions versus packages. Below are other Singapore providers’ published prices, quoted as written.

About these figures. Other Singapore providers’ published prices, quoted exactly (read 19 October 2026). Inclusions differ: some include a touch-up, some are multi-session packages, some exclude GST. Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is eyebrow embroidery?

Cosmetic tattooing of the brows: pigment placed in the upper dermis as hair-like strokes (microblading), soft shading (powder or ombre brows) or both. It fades over one to three years.

How long does eyebrow embroidery last?

Usually one to three years. Strokes fade sooner than powder brows, and oily skin, sun and exfoliating skincare shorten it. A touch-up at six to eight weeks is normal, then colour boosts as needed.

Is eyebrow embroidery painful?

Most people find it uncomfortable rather than very painful. Numbing cream is applied beforehand and topped up during the session; sensitivity varies between people.

Is microblading the same as eyebrow embroidery?

Microblading is one type of eyebrow embroidery, using a hand tool to make hair-like strokes. Powder or ombre brows use shading, and combination brows use both.

Which eyebrow embroidery is good for oily skin?

Powder or ombre shading usually holds better on oily skin, where fine strokes tend to blur and fade sooner. A combination brow with a few strokes at the front is another option.

Can eyebrow embroidery be removed or lightened?

Usually it can be lightened with picosecond or Q-switched laser over several sessions. Some brow pigments darken with laser, so a test area is treated first, and complete clearance is not always possible.

Do men get eyebrow embroidery?

Yes. Men usually choose a flatter, fuller shape with soft edges, often with light misty shading, so the brows look denser and neater rather than shaped.

When can I wear make-up after eyebrow embroidery?

Keep the brows dry and free of make-up and actives for about two weeks, until flaking has finished. The rest of the face can be cleansed carefully from day one.
