Morpheus8 delivers radiofrequency through needle arrays that can reach deeper than most facial microneedling. Dr Sin Yong explains how it works, who it suits, and the RF microneedling used at IN Eternity Clinic on Orchard Road.

Arrays of fine pins enter the skin and release bipolar RF heat; facial tips work in the dermis, while body tips reach deeper towards the junction of skin and fat. It is used for texture, scars, laxity and contour. IN Eternity Clinic does not use Morpheus8; it uses Secret Duo.
Morpheus8 is a fractional radiofrequency microneedling system from InMode. It belongs to the same family of treatments as other RF microneedling platforms: fine needles are pressed into the skin to a chosen depth and radiofrequency current passes between them, heating small columns of tissue. The skin repairs those columns with new collagen and a tighter fibrous network over the following months.
What Morpheus8 is known for is depth. Its facial tips work in the dermis, as most RF microneedling does, but its longer tips are designed to reach the deep dermis and the fibrous septa where skin meets the fat beneath. That is why it is marketed not only for skin quality but also for subdermal remodelling and contour, particularly on the lower face, neck and body. Some settings fire at more than one depth during a single press, so a column of heat is laid down from deep to shallow in one pass.
The name has become a shorthand that people use for RF microneedling in general. It is one platform among several, each with its own tips, energy delivery and add-ons.

Skin is layered. The epidermis on top is thin and carries pigment. The papillary dermis beneath it governs fine texture. The reticular dermis below is the thicker structural layer where scars and laxity live. Under that lies subcutaneous fat, divided into compartments by fibrous septa that anchor the skin to deeper structures. Each concern sits at a different level, and RF microneedling only works on the layer where its heat is released.
Shallow settings suit pores, fine lines and surface texture. Mid-depth settings are used for most acne scars. Deep settings reach the septa and the junction with fat, where heat can contract the fibrous network and remodel the fat just beneath it. Deep work can produce more tightening, but it also brings more swelling, a longer recovery and a greater chance of changing volume, which on a thin face is not always welcome. Choosing depth is therefore a clinical judgement about what the face can afford to lose as well as what it needs to gain.
“Depth is the most powerful setting in RF microneedling. On a thin Asian face, I am often more careful about what the needles take away than what they add.”
Published reports describe its use for acne scars, enlarged pores, fine lines, skin laxity on the lower face and neck, and loose skin on the abdomen, arms and knees. It has also been combined with other InMode radiofrequency treatments for laxity. Much of the published literature consists of case series and reviews rather than controlled trials, which is common for energy devices but worth remembering when reading claims.
It is not a replacement for volume where cheeks or temples have hollowed, nor for a facelift where skin is markedly loose and heavy. Deep RF can make a full lower face look more defined, but it cannot reposition descended tissue the way surgery does. Expectations should be framed around firmer, smoother skin and a modest improvement in contour.
Body use deserves its own caution. Loose skin on the abdomen after pregnancy or weight loss, crepey knees and soft upper arms are common reasons people ask about deep RF microneedling. Mild laxity can improve; significant excess skin, deep stretch marks and a separated abdominal wall each need their own assessment, and some are better served by other approaches.

Often, and many plans do so. On the face, RF microneedling may be sequenced with subcision for tethered scars, with fractional CO2 for surface resurfacing, or with collagen stimulators where volume is lost. For laxity, it may be paired with a needle-free treatment that works at a different depth, such as focused ultrasound for the deeper support layer. The order and spacing matter: treatments that heat the same layer are not usually stacked on the same day, and injectables are timed so that heat does not act on fresh product.
The aim of combining is not to do more for its own sake. It is to give each layer the tool that suits it, so that fewer sessions of any one treatment are needed.
| Platform | Distinguishing feature | Typical emphasis | At IN Eternity Clinic |
|---|---|---|---|
| Morpheus8 | Long body tips, multi-depth firing | Deep remodelling and contour | No |
| Secret Duo | RF needles plus 1540 nm fractional laser | Scars, pores, texture; body protocols | Yes |
| Potenza | Monopolar and bipolar modes | Scars, texture, laxity | No |
| Sylfirm X | Pulsed-wave mode | Melasma and redness | No |
These differences are real but narrower than marketing suggests. Every one of these platforms can be used well or poorly. The scar type, the depth chosen for each zone, the energy, the number of passes and the aftercare make most of the difference to how a treatment turns out.
Redness, swelling, pinpoint bleeding and grid-like marks are expected and usually settle within days. The risks that matter more in Singapore, where most skin is Fitzpatrick type III to V, are post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and prolonged redness. They are more likely with higher energy, more passes and poor sun protection afterwards, and are reduced by conservative settings and preparing the skin beforehand.
Less common risks include small burns or scabs, infection, acne flares and, with deep settings on thin areas of the face, unwanted loss of volume that can make a face look more hollow. Areas with recent filler are discussed beforehand, because heat near filler is planned with care. People with pacemakers, active skin infection, a tendency to keloid scarring or who are pregnant need individual advice, and recent oral isotretinoin, a prescription medicine, affects timing.
IN Eternity Clinic does not offer Morpheus8. For the face, the clinic uses RF microneedling on CLASSYS Secret Duo, which combines insulated RF needles with a 1540 nm fractional laser, for acne scars, pores and texture. For the body, Dr Sin Yong’s 4K Body Lift uses the same platform with needles placed into mapped fat compartments, then a shallower pass for the skin above, to remodel contour on the abdomen, flanks, thighs and arms.
Not every laxity problem needs needles. Where skin is loose without scars or texture problems, monopolar radiofrequency such as Thermage FLX or the VF Lift – Vertical Facelift on Volnewmer, or focused ultrasound on the Ultraformer MPT, may suit better with less recovery. Dr Sin Yong will tell you at assessment which option he recommends and why.
Numbing cream is applied beforehand, and some clinics add local anaesthetic for deep body work. Day 0: redness, warmth and swelling, often with a visible grid pattern. Days 1 to 3: swelling peaks and settles; the skin feels rough and may flake. Week 1: most facial redness has faded, though deeper settings can leave pinkness for longer. Weeks 2 to 4: collagen remodelling continues quietly and the skin tone evens out. A review is usually planned at around four to six weeks, with further sessions spaced similarly. Throughout, sun protection and gentle skincare reduce the risk of pigment.
No. IN Eternity Clinic uses Secret Duo for RF microneedling on the face and for the 4K Body Lift protocol on the body. For laxity without scars, needle-free options such as Thermage FLX, VF Lift on Volnewmer or focused ultrasound may suit better.
There is little head-to-head evidence comparing RF microneedling brands. Morpheus8 is known for deeper tips and multi-depth firing. For most people the result depends more on matching depth and energy to the problem, and on aftercare, than on the platform.
Facial tips work within the dermis, and longer body tips reach several millimetres deeper, towards the junction of skin and fat. Depth is chosen for each area by the operator according to skin thickness and the target, rather than simply set at maximum.
Deep RF heating near the fat can reduce volume, which is sometimes intended on a full lower face but can be unwelcome on a thin or hollow face. This is one reason depth and energy are chosen conservatively in some areas.
Expect redness, swelling and grid marks for several days, with some pinkness lasting longer after deeper settings. Most people can return to work within a few days. Make-up and strenuous exercise are usually paused briefly, and sun protection continues throughout.
Elective energy treatments are generally postponed during pregnancy and often while breastfeeding, mainly because safety data are limited and skin is more prone to pigment changes at this time. Treatment is usually planned for afterwards, once hormones and skin have settled.
Cost depends on the area, the depth and number of passes, the number of sessions and whether other treatments are combined. At IN Eternity Clinic, Dr Sin Yong explains the plan and gives a written quote after assessment rather than a fixed figure.
