After significant weight loss the skin envelope can exceed the volume beneath it. This is a skin problem, not a fat problem — and fat-reduction treatments make it look worse.
Book an assessment →Loose skin after weight loss is excess skin left behind when the volume beneath it has gone. It is a skin problem, not a fat problem, so further fat reduction can make it look worse. Mild looseness may respond to skin-directed tightening over a course; large amounts of excess skin need a surgical opinion. See skin tightening in Singapore.
Prolonged stretch damages elastin and disorganises collagen. Once the underlying volume reduces, the envelope does not always retract, particularly after large or rapid losses.
Fat reduction and skin tightening are opposite requirements here. Removing more volume from beneath loose skin increases the redundancy.
Degree of redundancy, skin quality and recoil, how much weight was lost and how quickly, weight stability, and the site.
Skin-directed tightening rather than further volume reduction. The limits of non-surgical treatment are discussed honestly, because for substantial redundancy they are real.
Where redundancy is significant, a surgical opinion is the appropriate referral.
The assessment records how much weight was lost and how quickly, how long weight has been stable, which areas are affected, and how much the skin recoils when pinched. Common areas are the abdomen, upper arms, inner thighs, neck and jawline.
For mild to moderate looseness, skin-directed treatments that heat the dermis to stimulate collagen are used, such as radiofrequency and ultrasound-based tightening; the options are compared on skin tightening in Singapore, and the tummy is covered under sagging tummy treatment. Fat-reduction treatments are generally avoided where the problem is already too little volume under the skin.
Within limits. Tightening builds gradually over three to six months and usually needs a course. It can make skin firmer and smoother, but it does not remove overhanging folds. When the amount of excess skin is beyond what non-surgical treatment can address, referral for a surgical opinion is the honest outcome of the assessment.
“Loose skin after weight loss needs less taken away, not more. Fat reduction under an empty envelope makes it hang further.”

Partly, in some people. Younger skin and gradual weight loss recoil better, and some improvement can continue for a year or more. Large or rapid loss, older age and long-term stretching make full recoil less likely.
When there are overhanging folds, skin that rubs or causes rashes, or excess that non-surgical tightening cannot meaningfully change. Skin removal surgery is outside what an aesthetic clinic offers, and a referral is made where it is appropriate.

Every assessment at IN Eternity Clinic is carried out personally by Medical Director Dr Sin Yong at 9 Scotts Road, #12-01 Pacific Plaza. If the honest answer is that treatment should wait, you will be told that.
