A labelled comparison. IN Eternity Clinic does not offer Emsculpt; it offers Z Sculpt. Dr Sin Yong explains how they compare and when muscle is not the real issue.
WhatsApp to Enquire →Key facts ↓Emsculpt (BTL) and Z Sculpt both use a pulsed magnetic field to make the muscle under the applicator contract strongly and repeatedly, firming it over a short course. Neither is weight loss or tightens loose skin. IN Eternity Clinic does not offer Emsculpt; it offers Z Sculpt, and Onda Pro or the 4K Body Lift where fat or skin is the main issue.
Emsculpt is a body-shaping device made by BTL. It uses what the maker calls high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) energy to make a muscle contract hard and repeatedly while you lie still. A later version, Emsculpt NEO, adds radiofrequency heating in the same applicator, aimed at the fat layer. In Singapore it is offered by a number of clinics for the abdomen, buttocks, arms and thighs.
Z Sculpt is the electromagnetic muscle stimulation protocol offered at IN Eternity Clinic. It works on the same broad principle: strong, rapid contractions of the muscle under the applicator, beyond what voluntary exercise produces, over a short course. At the clinic a course is usually four to six sessions of about 30 minutes, spaced two to five days apart, with intensity increased as you adapt.
Because the two work on the same idea, the useful comparison is less about the brand and more about whether muscle is actually the problem you want to change.
A rapidly switching magnetic field passes through skin and fat and induces small electrical currents in the tissue beneath. Those currents fire the motor nerves that tell a muscle to contract. Because the pulses come so close together, the muscle cannot relax fully between them, producing what manufacturers call supramaximal contractions, thousands of them in one session.
This is different from the electrode pads sold for home use. Pads pass current through the skin, so the sting at the surface limits how hard the muscle can be driven. A magnetic field reaches deep muscle without that surface sensation, which is why a clinic device can work a large muscle such as the rectus abdominis or gluteus maximus much harder. The muscle still has to be within reach: a thick fat layer increases the distance and dilutes the effect.
The general background to these devices, including the animal and imaging studies, is covered in HIFEM muscle toning explained.

The published work on HIFEM devices falls into three groups. Animal studies examined muscle under the microscope after treatment and described larger muscle fibres, with signs that new fibres may form. Imaging studies in people, using MRI or ultrasound at the start and end of a course, report thicker abdominal muscle and, in many participants, a thinner fat layer over it. Smaller studies report waist measurements and satisfaction.
That is a reasonable body of evidence that the muscle changes. Its limits are also clear: many trials are small, short and funded by manufacturers; fat findings are less consistent than muscle findings; and muscle gained without ongoing loading tends to drift back towards baseline, as it does when you stop training. These findings apply to the class of device; individual protocols, including Z Sculpt, are judged by your own response at review.
“Muscle stimulation changes the muscle. If the shape comes from fat or loose skin, the plan has to start there instead.”
The people most likely to be happy with electromagnetic muscle toning are close to their usual weight, have a fairly thin layer of fat over the muscle, and want firmer, more defined muscle in one area: a soft lower abdomen, flat buttocks, or arms and thighs that lack tone. A thin fat layer lets the change show.
It is not suitable with a pacemaker, defibrillator or other electronic implant, metal implants near the area, or during pregnancy. An untreated hernia, recent surgery in the area, some intrauterine devices for abdominal treatment, and certain heart or bleeding conditions need a doctor’s opinion first. It does not tighten loose skin and is not a substitute for weight loss.
A soft abdomen or buttock is usually a mix of three layers. A simple test helps: if you can pinch a thick fold, fat is a large part of the shape; if the skin creases and hangs when you lean forward, skin laxity is involved; if the area is soft but the pinch is thin and the skin snaps back, muscle tone may be the main factor.
| What the examination finds | Option at IN Eternity Clinic |
|---|---|
| Soft muscle, thin fat layer, good skin | Z Sculpt |
| Stubborn local fat, perhaps with cellulite | Onda Pro (microwave) |
| Fat with loose skin over it | The 4K Body Lift on Secret Duo |
| Mainly loose skin after pregnancy or weight loss | Sagging tummy treatment; surgery where skin excess is marked |
| A mix | A sequence, often fat or skin first, then muscle |
How fat freezing compares with the fat-focused options is covered in CoolSculpting vs Onda Pro vs 4K Body Lift. The wider range is on body contouring concerns.
General clinical observations used at consultation; they describe what is checked, not any individual result.

You lie on a couch with the applicator strapped over the area. The sensation is an intense, rhythmic tightening of the muscle that you cannot stop by relaxing, often described as a hard workout without moving. Intensity starts lower and is increased within the session and across the course; it can be turned down at any time. No numbing is used and there is no wound. Aching like after an unfamiliar workout is common for a day or two.
A Z Sculpt course at IN Eternity Clinic is usually four to six sessions, two to five days apart. Changes in muscle and contour continue to develop over four to eight weeks after the last session and are compared with measurements and photographs taken at the start. Keeping the muscle working, through exercise, maintenance sessions or both, is what holds the change.
Most softness is a mix of fat, skin and muscle tone. Some causes need medical assessment first.
Where any of these apply, the cause is settled first. A body plan can follow once it is clear.

Cost depends on the number of areas, the number of sessions in the course, whether maintenance is planned and whether muscle toning is combined with fat or skin treatment. At IN Eternity Clinic the plan and its cost are explained after an assessment with Dr Sin Yong, rather than quoted as a fixed package. The consultation fee is S$120, waived with any medical treatment.
No. IN Eternity Clinic does not offer Emsculpt or Emsculpt NEO. It offers Z Sculpt, its electromagnetic muscle stimulation protocol, and Onda Pro or the 4K Body Lift where fat or loose skin is the main issue.
They work on the same broad principle, strong electromagnetically induced muscle contractions, but they are different devices and protocols. Emsculpt is BTL’s brand; Z Sculpt is the protocol used at IN Eternity Clinic.
Imaging studies of this class of device report thinner fat over the treated muscle in many people, but the effect is smaller and less consistent than the change in muscle. Neither is weight loss; where fat is the main issue, a fat-focused treatment fits better.
A course of four to six sessions, two to five days apart, is usual at IN Eternity Clinic. Change continues for four to eight weeks after the last session and is reviewed with measurements and photographs.
Most people describe it as intense rather than painful: strong, rhythmic tightening of the muscle. Intensity is adjusted to your tolerance and increased over the course. Muscle aching for a day or two afterwards is common.
They may improve muscle tone, but they do not close a significant separation of the abdominal muscles, repair a hernia or tighten loose skin. The midline is examined first, and treatment is usually deferred until after breastfeeding.
Muscle that is not kept working tends to drift back towards where it started. Exercise, periodic maintenance sessions or both hold the change. A stable weight keeps the contour visible.
People with pacemakers or other electronic implants, metal implants near the area, or who are pregnant. Hernias, recent surgery, some intrauterine devices for abdominal treatment, and certain heart or bleeding conditions need a doctor’s review first.
