Good doctors practise on both sides of the Causeway. Dr Sin Yong sets out the checks that matter wherever you are treated, and why aftercare access weighs more than price.
WhatsApp to Enquire →Key facts ↓Whether you are treated in Johor Bahru or Singapore, check three things: that the clinic is licensed and the doctor registered and credentialed for the procedure, that the product or device is genuine and registered with the national regulator, and that you can be seen quickly if something changes once you are home. Laser darkening appears weeks later and filler problems need care within hours.
Dalam Bahasa Melayu: klinik estetik di Singapura untuk pelawat dari Johor Bahru.
Johor Bahru is a short drive from Singapore, and many people cross the Causeway for aesthetic treatment, often for lasers such as pico laser or for injectables. Good, careful doctors practise on both sides of the border. The useful question is not which city is better, but what you need to check wherever you are treated, and what changes when your clinic is in another country.
Three things matter more than the headline price: whether the clinic and the person treating you are properly licensed for what they are doing, whether the product or device is genuine and registered, and whether you can be seen quickly if something changes after you are home. This guide sets out those checks factually. It makes no claims about any clinic. For a wider comparison that includes Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur, see aesthetic treatments in Singapore vs abroad.
| Check | In Singapore | In Johor Bahru (Malaysia) | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| The clinic | Licensed by the Ministry of Health under the Healthcare Services Act; searchable in MOH’s directory | Registered as a private clinic with Malaysia’s Ministry of Health; registration displayed at the premises | Confirms the premises may provide medical services |
| The doctor | Registered with the Singapore Medical Council; the public register shows registration and practice place | Registered with the Malaysian Medical Council with a current practising certificate | Confirms the person treating you is a registered doctor |
| Aesthetic credentials | SMC guidelines set which aesthetic procedures doctors may offer and the training needed for some | Malaysia’s Ministry of Health credentials doctors for aesthetic medical practice | Confirms the doctor is permitted to perform that procedure |
| Products and devices | Registered with the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) | Registered with Malaysia’s Medical Device Authority or drug regulator (NPRA), as applicable | Unregistered or counterfeit products are a known regional problem |
| Who performs it | Doctor-performed for medical procedures | Ask directly who will treat you | Laser and injection complications are more common with non-doctor operators |
| Records | Ask for a copy of what was done | Ask for a written record and the product label | Any later doctor needs to know exactly what was used |
In Singapore, the three checks are explained step by step in how to check an aesthetic clinic licence in Singapore. Equivalent checks exist in Malaysia, and a well-run clinic in either country will answer these questions readily.
Counterfeit and unregistered injectables and devices circulate across Southeast Asia, often at prices that look attractive. A genuine product protects you in two ways: you get what the evidence is based on, and, if something goes wrong, the next doctor knows exactly what is in your skin.
At IN Eternity Clinic every injectable is registered with HSA for its use and sourced through authorised channels; the clinic’s position on products it does not use is set out in treatments we choose not to offer.

Most treatments go smoothly. When they do not, timing matters, and the problem usually appears after you have left the clinic.
| Treatment | When problems usually show | What timely care needs |
|---|---|---|
| Dermal filler | Vascular blockage: minutes to hours. Infection: days. Nodules: weeks to months. | Same-day review for vascular signs; the injecting doctor ideally reachable |
| Pico laser for pigment | Post-inflammatory darkening: two to six weeks | Review and topical care; laser paused until it fades |
| Anti-wrinkle injections | Uneven effect or eyelid droop: one to two weeks | Review and, sometimes, adjustment |
| Thread lift | Dimpling, infection or a thread end: days to weeks | Review and, sometimes, removal |
| Energy lifting (HIFU, RF) | Tender lines, numb patches: days to weeks | Review to confirm recovery |
For pico laser in particular, the risk window for darkening falls weeks after treatment, when you are likely back in Singapore. Side effects and their timing are set out in pico laser side effects and aftercare. For fillers, the most serious complication, a blocked blood vessel, needs treatment within hours; a two-hour journey back, or a clinic that is closed, changes the outcome. A doctor in Singapore can help, but treating a complication caused by an unknown product is harder than treating one caused by a known one.
“The price is set on the day of treatment. The real cost of a treatment includes who sees you when something changes three weeks later.”
As a general principle, single treatments with predictable recovery and little risk of urgent complications are easier to manage away from home than injectables in high-risk areas. This is a description of risk, not advice to travel or not to travel.
| Generally easier to manage across a border | Need more planning for follow-up |
|---|---|
| Medical facials and Hydrafacial-type treatments | Dermal fillers, especially nose, under-eye and forehead |
| Gentle laser toning, with sun protection afterwards | Pico or Q-switched spot treatment in skin types III–V |
| Laser hair removal at conservative settings | Thread lifts |
| Biostimulators such as PLLA or CaHA, which can form nodules weeks later |
If you decide to be treated in JB, it helps to have a doctor in Singapore you can see promptly, to bring the records home, and to avoid planning a holiday in the sun straight after laser.
General clinical observations used at consultation; they describe what is checked, not any individual result.
Wherever you were treated, these signs need prompt medical attention. In Singapore, call 995 for an emergency.
Bring any record of what was used. If you were treated at IN Eternity Clinic, contact the clinic on +65 8815 3008 during opening hours.

Prices are often lower in Malaysian ringgit, and exchange rates add to the difference. A fair comparison adds travel time, possible repeat trips for review, and the cost and inconvenience of managing a complication from a distance. It also compares like with like: the same product or device, the same amount, and the same person performing it. In Singapore, the main things to compare between clinics are the doctor, the product or device, and what follow-up is included; how to choose an aesthetic clinic in Singapore sets these out. The consultation fee at IN Eternity Clinic is S$120, waived with any medical treatment.
Careful, well-qualified doctors practise in Johor Bahru as in Singapore. Safety depends on the clinic’s licence, the doctor’s registration and credentials, genuine registered products and access to follow-up. Check these before booking, and plan who will see you if a problem appears after you are home.
Ask for the clinic’s Ministry of Health registration, the doctor’s Malaysian Medical Council registration and practising certificate, and, for aesthetic procedures, the doctor’s credentialing for aesthetic practice. Ask which products and devices are used and whether they are registered in Malaysia.
The technology can be the same, but results depend on the diagnosis, the device, the settings and aftercare. The main risk in Asian skin, post-inflammatory darkening, appears two to six weeks later, so plan follow-up and strict sun protection whichever side of the border you are treated.
Often, yes. A doctor in Singapore can assess and manage many complications. It is much easier when you bring records of the product, batch and device used, because treating an unknown product is harder.
A written record of what was done, the product name and batch number or filler sticker label, the device name for lasers, the doctor’s name and contact details, and any aftercare advice. Photographs from before treatment are also useful.
Prices in ringgit and lower operating costs often make treatment cheaper. A fair comparison includes the same product and amount, the same type of practitioner, travel time, follow-up visits and the cost of managing any complication at a distance.
Dermal fillers, especially in the nose, under the eyes and forehead, thread lifts, biostimulators and stronger pigment laser in darker skin types need more planning for follow-up, because complications can appear hours, weeks or months later.
