DEKA Academy is held where DEKA is based. DEKA is a medical laser maker in Florence and part of the El.En. group, founded in nearby Calenzano in 1981. The programme ran over three days in October 2026: two at Villa Donatello in Florence and one at the El.En. and DEKA headquarters in Calenzano.
The first two days were clinical sessions and demonstrations on four DEKA platforms: TORO (picosecond and Q-switched), RedTouch Pro (675 nm), SmartXide Tetra PRO (fractional CO2) and Onda Pro. Our Medical Director, Dr Sin Yong, attended as a Global Key Opinion Leader for DEKA and as a participant, compared notes with DEKA faculty on settings for Asian skin, and took his turn at the demonstrations. On day two he discussed combining lasers, including the 675 nm laser with TORO, with Prof Paolo Bonan.

On day three the group was hosted at the El.En. and DEKA headquarters and factory on the edge of Florence, and met DEKA’s clinical research team. Dr Sin Yong is first author of a clinical paper in preparation on the S3 Resurfacing protocol on Tetra PRO for acne scarring, with Irene Fusco and Laura Pieri of that team as co-authors. It has not been published yet. Each physician received a certificate of attendance from DEKA’s Laser Training Department.
