CLASSYS Ultraformer MPT: How the Device Works
The CLASSYS Ultraformer MPT at IN Eternity Clinic: its cartridges and modes as CLASSYS describes them, how depth is mapped to each face, and who it may not suit.
WhatsApp to Enquire →Key facts ↓The CLASSYS Ultraformer MPT is a high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) device that places small heated points at set depths under the skin, using interchangeable cartridges and a micro-pulsed mode. At IN Eternity Clinic on Orchard Road it is used for HIFU lifting of the face and neck, mainly for mild to moderate laxity. Results build over two to three months.
- Maker and model: Ultraformer MPT, made by CLASSYS, which lists it as HIFU (high-intensity focused ultrasound); MPT stands for Micro-Pulsed Technology [1].
- Face cartridges: CLASSYS lists face cartridges at 1.5, 2.0, 3.0 and 4.5 mm and body cartridges at 6.0, 9.0 and 13 mm, with output from 0.1 to 2.0 J [1].
- Two named modes: normal mode delivers energy in a dot pattern; MP mode delivers broader heating around the thermal coagulation point [1].
- How focused ultrasound acts: in human skin samples, focused ultrasound produced small, confined, inverted-cone-shaped zones of coagulation beneath an intact surface, about 4 mm deep, set by power, time and focal depth [2].
- Asian skin: in 49 Chinese patients (skin types III and IV) given 68 full-face focused ultrasound sessions, side effects were mild and transient over six months; darkening occurred in 2 of 49 [3].
What is the CLASSYS Ultraformer MPT?
The CLASSYS Ultraformer MPT is a focused-ultrasound (HIFU) device that heats tiny points at chosen depths under the skin while leaving the surface intact.
A HIFU transducer focuses ultrasound energy the way a magnifying glass focuses sunlight. At the focal point the tissue heats quickly to the temperature at which collagen contracts and coagulates, while the layers above and below are spared. Each cartridge is fixed at one depth, so the depth is chosen by choosing the cartridge. MPT stands for Micro-Pulsed Technology, CLASSYS’s way of splitting energy into finer pulses [1].
| Feature | What CLASSYS states | What it means in practice |
|---|---|---|
| Energy | High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) | Heat at a focal point under the skin, with the surface left intact |
| MPT | Micro-Pulsed Technology | Energy divided into finer pulses for broader, more even heating |
| Face cartridges | 1.5, 2.0, 3.0 and 4.5 mm | From the upper dermis down to the SMAS layer |
| Body cartridges | 6.0, 9.0 and 13 mm | Deeper body layers (listed by CLASSYS) |
| Delivery pattern | F-type cartridges deliver energy in a linear pattern | Lines of heated points laid along each zone |
| Modes | Normal mode (dot pattern) and MP mode (broad heating of the coagulation zone); four energy modes in total | Concentrated points for deeper structure, broader heating for the dermis |
| Output | 0.1 to 2.0 J, in 0.1 J steps | Energy set per cartridge and zone |
CLASSYS is among the device makers that have invited Dr Sin Yong to share his clinical expertise internationally. That is a professional relationship; it does not decide which device you are treated with.
How does Ultraformer MPT HIFU tighten skin?
It heats small points in the dermis and the SMAS layer; the heat contracts collagen and starts a remodelling response that builds over two to three months.
Laboratory work on human skin showed that focused ultrasound makes confined, inverted-cone-shaped zones of coagulation beneath an intact surface, with their size and depth set by power, exposure time and focal depth [2]. On the face, shallower cartridges work in the dermis, while the 4.5 mm depth reaches the SMAS, the supportive layer that is repositioned in a surgical facelift.
The Ultraformer MPT has two ways of laying energy along a line. In normal mode, the cartridge places discrete thermal points in a dot pattern; in MP mode, energy is split into finer pulses that heat the target zone more broadly [1]. Dot mode concentrates energy at specific points, which suits deeper structure along the jaw and lower cheek; MP mode spreads heat more evenly and tends to feel gentler, which suits the dermis and sensitive areas.
HIFU tightens tissue. It is not a fat treatment and does not change bone structure, so the cause of a soft jawline is diagnosed first. How a session runs is explained in HIFU treatment on the Ultraformer MPT.
Which treatments use the Ultraformer MPT at IN Eternity Clinic?
The Ultraformer MPT is used for one thing at IN Eternity Clinic: HIFU lifting and tightening of the face and neck.
| Area | What HIFU on the Ultraformer MPT aims to do | Read more |
|---|---|---|
| Jowls and jawline | Tighten the SMAS and deep dermis along the jaw in early to moderate laxity | HIFU in Singapore |
| Midface and smile lines | Support descended cheek tissue, which can soften deepening folds | HIFU treatment on the Ultraformer MPT |
| Under the chin | Tighten loose skin; fullness that is mainly fat or a short jaw needs a different approach | double chin treatment |
| Brow and around the eyes | Superficial cartridges for thinner skin, with lines placed to protect sensitive structures | droopy eyelid treatment |
| Neck | Shallower cartridges for thinner neck skin, often with a lower-face plan | skin tightening in Singapore |
A full face usually takes about 30 to 60 minutes. Most people need one session, with maintenance discussed individually; some plans use a series. What drives the cost of a session, without prices, is set out in HIFU cost in Singapore, and comfort in is HIFU painful?.
How does the Ultraformer MPT differ from other lifting devices?
It differs from other HIFU systems mainly in its cartridge range and micro-pulsed mode, and from radiofrequency devices in heating focal points rather than a broad volume.
| CLASSYS Ultraformer MPT (HIFU) | Ultherapy (focused ultrasound) | Monopolar radiofrequency | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Energy | Focused ultrasound to focal points | Focused ultrasound to focal points | Radiofrequency heating of a broader tissue volume |
| Depth control | Fixed-depth cartridges chosen per zone | Fixed-depth transducers, with on-screen imaging of the tissue | Set by tip and energy; deep dermis and fibrous septa |
| Distinctive feature | Wide cartridge range; MP (micro-pulsed) mode | Real-time visualisation before firing | Heats the dermis broadly; little downtime |
| Main use at IN Eternity | HIFU lifting of face and neck | Ultherapy lifting | Thermage FLX and the CLASSYS Volnewmer |
Neither HIFU nor radiofrequency replaces surgery for heavy sagging. The useful question is which layer your face needs treated. The comparisons in Ultherapy vs HIFU and Thermage vs HIFU vs Ultherapy set out the trade-offs, and the radiofrequency platform is described on the CLASSYS Volnewmer device page.
Is the Ultraformer MPT safe for Asian skin?
Focused ultrasound leaves the surface intact, so the darkening risk is lower than with resurfacing, but bruising, tenderness and occasional darkening can still occur.
In a safety study of 49 Chinese patients with skin types III and IV, side effects after full-face focused ultrasound were mild and transient over six months; darkening occurred in 2 of 49, and pain was often marked, so comfort needs planning [3]. In Asian faces, which often have less soft tissue over a broader bony frame, deep cartridges are used where there is enough tissue, and superficial ones over thin areas.
- Lines are placed away from the nerves and vessels along the jaw and temple.
- Numbing cream can be applied, and energy can be adjusted line by line.
- Very lean faces are treated cautiously, because heat at depth can reduce fullness.
- Gentle skin care and sun protection follow; heavy facial massage is avoided for a few days.

Who may not suit treatment on the Ultraformer MPT?
Pregnancy, active infection or acne in the area, very little facial fat, and advanced sagging with excess skin are the usual reasons to wait or to choose differently.
- Pregnancy. Elective treatment is postponed; see pregnancy and breastfeeding safety.
- Active skin infection, open wounds or severe acne in the treatment area.
- Metal implants or recent filler in the treatment zone, which are reviewed individually.
- Very low facial fat, where deep cartridges may hollow the face.
- Advanced sagging with significant excess skin, where a surgical opinion is discussed.
- Fullness that is mainly fat, muscle or bone, which HIFU does not change; see sagging face treatment for the alternatives.
If HIFU is not the right tool, Dr Sin Yong says so and explains what is.
What Dr Sin Yong checks before using the Ultraformer MPT
- What is causing the laxity: skin, SMAS, fat, bone support or a mixture.
- How much soft tissue sits over each zone, which decides the cartridge depth.
- Previous filler, threads or implants in the treatment area.
- Skin thickness around the eyes and neck, where shallower cartridges are used.
- Pain tolerance, so comfort can be planned.
- Whether another lifting approach, or none, would suit your face better.
General clinical observations used at consultation; they describe what is checked, not any individual result.
What happens at an Ultraformer MPT session?
After assessment and depth mapping, gel is applied and the cartridges lay lines of heated points zone by zone; a full face usually takes 30 to 60 minutes.
- Assessment. Dr Sin Yong examines skin quality, fat, bone support and the degree of sagging to confirm HIFU suits you.
- Depth mapping. Cartridges, modes and line counts are planned per zone, and the plan and cost explained before treatment.
- Preparation. Cleansing and consented photographs; numbing cream if you choose.
- Treatment. Gel is applied and the cartridge is placed on the skin for each line. Most people feel brief deep warmth or tingling, strongest over bone.
- Straight after. Mild redness, swelling or tenderness can last hours to a few days; most people return to work the same day.
- Review. Change develops over two to three months as collagen remodels, and maintenance is usually discussed at around a year.

Where can I have CLASSYS Ultraformer MPT treatment in Singapore?
The Ultraformer MPT is used at IN Eternity Clinic, 9 Scotts Road, #12-01 Pacific Plaza, Singapore 228210, near Orchard MRT, after a consultation with Medical Director Dr Sin Yong.
Medical devices supplied in Singapore are regulated by the Health Sciences Authority; HSA registration explained shows how to check a product. Fees depend on the areas, cartridges and lines, and are given in writing after assessment; see fees.
The clinic’s other CLASSYS platforms are described in CLASSYS platforms at IN Eternity, and every device in aesthetic devices at IN Eternity Clinic.
“HIFU is a tightening treatment — not a fat treatment and not a bone treatment. When a jawline is soft because of structure, more lines will not fix it, and I would rather say so at the consultation than after the session.”
Frequently asked questions
Is the CLASSYS Ultraformer MPT available in Singapore?
Yes. The CLASSYS Ultraformer MPT is available at IN Eternity Clinic, 9 Scotts Road, #12-01 Pacific Plaza, Singapore 228210, near Orchard MRT, where it is used for HIFU lifting of the face and neck. Treatment follows an assessment by Dr Sin Yong, who maps cartridges and lines for your face.
What does MPT stand for?
MPT stands for Micro-Pulsed Technology. CLASSYS describes an MP mode that splits energy into finer pulses for broader heating around the thermal coagulation point, alongside a normal mode that places energy in a dot pattern. Dr Sin Yong chooses the mode cartridge by cartridge and zone by zone.
Is Ultraformer MPT the same as HIFU?
The Ultraformer MPT is one HIFU device. HIFU, high-intensity focused ultrasound, is the technology; Ultraformer MPT is CLASSYS’s platform for delivering it, with its own cartridge range and modes. Other focused-ultrasound systems exist, including Ultherapy, which adds on-screen imaging.
Which cartridge depths are used on the face?
CLASSYS lists face cartridges at 1.5, 2.0, 3.0 and 4.5 mm. The shallower depths work in the dermis; 4.5 mm reaches the SMAS, the supportive layer under the skin. Deeper cartridges are used where there is enough tissue over bone, and shallower ones around the eyes and on the neck.
Does Ultraformer MPT treatment hurt?
Most people feel brief deep warmth or aching along bony areas, and MP mode often feels milder. Numbing cream can be applied, and energy can be adjusted line by line. Sensation varies between people and between areas of the face.
How long do Ultraformer MPT results take to show?
Some tightening may be noticed early, but most change develops over two to three months as collagen remodels. How long it lasts varies with age, skin and lifestyle, and maintenance is usually discussed at around the one-year mark.
Is there downtime after Ultraformer MPT?
Usually little. Mild redness, swelling or tenderness can last hours to a few days, and occasional bruising or temporary numbness can occur. Most people return to work the same day.
Ultraformer MPT or Ultherapy: which will I have?
Both are focused-ultrasound treatments offered at IN Eternity Clinic. Ultherapy adds real-time visualisation of the tissue; the Ultraformer MPT offers a wide cartridge range and a micro-pulsed mode. Dr Sin Yong discusses which suits your face, and whether a different lifting approach would suit it better.
