Acne scar treatment is rarely one device or one session. Dr Sin Yong explains what drives the cost and how IN Eternity Clinic on Orchard Road gives a written quote after assessment.
WhatsApp to Enquire →Key facts ↓The cost of acne scar treatment in Singapore depends mainly on the scar types present, how many methods are needed, how many sessions and the area treated. Rolling, boxcar and ice-pick scars need different tools, often combined in one plan. At IN Eternity Clinic, Dr Sin Yong maps the scars first, then gives a written, itemised quote after assessment.
Acne scars are not one condition. A single cheek often contains three or four scar types, each with a different shape and depth, and each responding to different tools. A plan for mild, shallow rolling scars on both cheeks is a very different undertaking from a plan for dense ice-pick and boxcar scarring across the cheeks, temples and jawline. The time, the methods and the number of sessions differ, and so does the cost.
That is why a headline price for a single laser session tells you little about what treating your scars will involve. Two quotes may look similar per session and lead to very different totals, or the lower figure may cover only one part of what your scars need. Understanding what drives cost makes it easier to compare fairly.

Rolling scars have soft, sloping edges and are pulled down by fibrous bands that tether the skin to deeper tissue. Resurfacing alone has limited effect until the bands are released by subcision, a procedure that frees the scar from below. Boxcar scars are wider with steep edges and a flat floor; they respond to resurfacing and remodelling, often over several sessions. Ice-pick scars are narrow, deep shafts that resurfacing across the whole face barely reaches, so they are treated individually, for example with TCA CROSS or point treatment with a CO2 laser.
Most people have a mix. A plan that addresses every type usually combines methods, either in the same session or in sequence. Each added method adds time and materials, but leaving out a method that a scar type needs usually means paying for sessions that cannot deliver much. Flat red or brown marks after acne are not scars in the structural sense, and they are often treated differently and more simply.
“I would rather quote you for what your scars need than for a number of sessions that looks tidy on paper.”
| Method | Suited to | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Subcision | Rolling scars | Releases fibrous bands tethering the scar |
| TCA CROSS | Ice-pick scars | Focal chemical remodelling of narrow shafts |
| Fractional CO2 (DEKA Tetra PRO) | Boxcar and mixed scars | Resurfaces and remodels in microscopic columns |
| RF microneedling (Secret Duo) | Boxcar, rolling, texture | Heats the dermis at depth with less surface injury |
| Collagen stimulator or filler | Areas of lost volume | Supports the scarred area from beneath |
Each method has its own recovery. Fractional CO2 usually means several days of healing; RF microneedling a shorter recovery; subcision some bruising and swelling. How much recovery you can accommodate sometimes changes the plan, for example spreading treatment over more, gentler sessions, which can affect the total.

Area and severity. Treating both cheeks costs more than one, and dense scarring needs more passes, more time and often more sessions than scattered scars.
Number of sessions. Most plans run over several sessions spaced four to eight weeks apart, because collagen remodelling takes time. How many depends on scar type, severity and response, which is why an estimate is reviewed as you go.
Skin type. In Asian skin, settings are chosen with post-inflammatory pigmentation in mind. A more conservative approach can mean more sessions at lower intensity, which may cost more over time but lowers the risk of pigment problems that would themselves need treating.
Active acne. Scars are treated once breakouts are controlled, because new inflammation creates new scars. If acne is still active, medical treatment comes first and is a separate cost. Oral isotretinoin, a prescription medicine, also affects timing; see isotretinoin and procedures.
Associated marks. Red or brown marks alongside scars may be treated in the same plan with lasers or skincare.
Maintenance. Scar remodelling is largely a one-time course rather than a lifelong cost, but some people choose occasional sessions later for texture, and new breakouts, if acne is not controlled, can create new scars that need treatment.
Because treatment runs as a course, the cost is usually spread across several months rather than paid for a single visit. A typical sequence might begin with controlling active acne, then subcision and focal treatment of ice-pick scars, followed by resurfacing or RF microneedling sessions spaced weeks apart, with reviews in between. Some steps happen once; others are repeated according to response.
Seeing the plan laid out in stages makes it easier to budget and to judge progress. It also means you can pause between stages if work, travel or recovery time requires it. A plan that cannot flex at all, or that asks for the whole course to be committed before your skin has responded to the first session, deserves careful thought.
A useful quote is written and itemised. It shows which methods are planned for which scar types, how many sessions are expected and at what intervals, and what each session includes. It should say whether numbing, aftercare products and review visits are included or charged separately, and what happens if your scars respond more slowly than expected. It is also fair to ask who performs each part of the treatment.
Be cautious of pressure to commit on the day or to pay for a large number of sessions before your skin has shown how it responds. A plan built around your scars should be able to adapt after the first session or two.
Pricing formats also differ. Some clinics charge per laser session, some per area, some per method, and some per stage of a plan. None of these is wrong, but they are hard to compare directly. Converting each quote into the full expected course for your scars, with everything it includes, is the fairest way to compare.
At IN Eternity Clinic, the first step is an assessment with Dr Sin Yong. He examines the scars in different lighting and angles, identifies each scar type, takes photographs in standard positions and asks about previous treatments, active acne and recovery time. He then explains the plan, which may draw on subcision, TCA CROSS, fractional CO2 on the DEKA Tetra PRO, RF microneedling on Secret Duo and, where volume is lost, a collagen stimulator, often combined within the clinic’s 4D Scar Reconstruction protocol.
Plans are built around your scars rather than sold as fixed bundles, so Dr Sin Yong gives a written quote after assessment. Progress is reviewed against the baseline photographs, and the plan is adjusted if the response is faster or slower than expected. IN Eternity Clinic is a designated DEKA Centre of Excellence.
Acne scar treatment remodels scar tissue; it does not erase it. A realistic aim is scars that are shallower, softer-edged and less noticeable in normal light, with smoother overall texture. Improvement builds over months after each session. Value comes from matching the right method to each scar type, sequencing them sensibly and protecting the skin from pigment complications, more than from the lowest price per session.
It varies widely with scar type, severity, the area treated, the methods combined and the number of sessions. At IN Eternity Clinic, Dr Sin Yong maps your scars and gives a written, itemised quote after assessment rather than a fixed figure, because two people with acne scars can need very different plans.
Clinics may plan different methods, numbers of sessions or areas, and may include or exclude numbing, aftercare and reviews. A quote for one laser session is not comparable with a plan that combines subcision, TCA CROSS and resurfacing. Ask for itemised, written quotes to compare like with like.
Most people need several sessions spaced four to eight weeks apart. The number depends on scar types, severity, skin type and how your skin responds. An estimate is given after assessment and reviewed as treatment progresses, rather than fixed in advance.
Practices differ, so it is worth asking. At IN Eternity Clinic, the assessment with Dr Sin Yong is where the scars are mapped and the plan explained, and the written quote you receive afterwards sets out what is included for the treatment itself.
Not necessarily, but a lower figure may cover fewer methods, fewer sessions or a smaller area. What matters is whether the plan addresses each of your scar types and protects your skin from complications. Comparing written, itemised plans is more useful than comparing totals alone.
No treatment erases scar tissue completely, whatever the method chosen or the number of sessions. A realistic aim is shallower, softer-edged scars that are less noticeable in everyday light, with smoother texture overall. Improvement builds over months after each session.
Yes. Active inflammation creates new scars and makes procedures less predictable. Acne is usually controlled first, sometimes with prescription medicines, and scar treatment is timed accordingly. If you have recently taken oral isotretinoin, a prescription medicine, timing is discussed individually with Dr Sin Yong.
Acne scar treatment is generally considered aesthetic and is not usually covered by Medisave or standard insurance. Coverage rules can change and policies differ, so check with your insurer before starting. If your insurer needs documentation, ask the clinic for an itemised invoice.
