Ultherapy places focused ultrasound under live imaging, then your own collagen does the work. Dr Sin Yong sets out what changes, when, and how the result is fairly judged.
WhatsApp to Enquire →Key facts ↓Ultherapy results build over months. Micro-focused ultrasound, guided by live imaging, heats small points in the dermis and the SMAS support layer, and new collagen forms afterwards. Visible firming of the jawline, under-chin, neck and brow usually starts at six to eight weeks, is judged around three months and can continue to six months. It suits mild to moderate laxity; most people have one session.
Ultherapy is micro-focused ultrasound with real-time imaging. Before each line of energy, the doctor sees the tissue layers on screen and confirms the depth; the transducer then places small points of heat at set depths, typically 1.5 mm, 3.0 mm and 4.5 mm, the deepest at the SMAS support layer that a surgical facelift repositions. Each point contracts collagen and starts a repair process that builds new collagen over the following months.
The result is gradual: a firmer jawline, a slightly lifted brow, less loose skin under the chin and on the neck, and often smoother skin texture. It suits mild to moderate laxity. Most people have one session; change usually becomes visible from about six to eight weeks, is judged at around three months and can continue to about six months.
At IN Eternity Clinic the current system is Ultherapy Prime; see Ultherapy in Singapore for the treatment and Ultherapy vs Ultherapy Prime for what changed in the newer system. This page is about results and timing. It does not show patient photographs; IN Eternity Clinic does not publish patient photographs or patient endorsements to advertise treatment, in line with Singapore’s rules on healthcare advertising.
| When | What you may notice | What is happening |
|---|---|---|
| Treatment day | Redness, mild swelling, sometimes a tight feeling | Heat at the focal points; fluid shift |
| Days 1–7 | Tenderness along the jaw or cheekbone; occasional faint lines or small bruises | Early inflammation around the heated points |
| Weeks 2–4 | Swelling gone; little visible change | Repair begins; new collagen not yet visible |
| Weeks 6–12 | Firmer jawline and under-chin; slight brow lift in some | New collagen and tightening of the support layer |
| Around 3 months | Review with standardised photographs | Most of the visible change is present |
| 3–6 months | Texture may keep improving | Remodelling continues in some people |
| 12 months onwards | Ageing continues from a firmer baseline | Maintenance considered at review |
The quiet period between weeks two and six is when many people decide nothing has happened. It is normal: the swelling has gone and the collagen has not yet built. That is why the review is booked for around three months rather than the following week.
Micro-focused ultrasound with visualisation has one of the larger evidence bases among non-surgical lifting devices. A prospective, rater-blinded study of face and neck treatment measured brow elevation and tightening of submental and neck skin at follow-up. A study of the lower face reported improvement in laxity at three months on standardised assessment, and a retrospective review of face and neck treatment found that most patients were judged improved by both doctors and patients, with results influenced by age and the degree of laxity.
A randomised, split-face, evaluator-blind trial compared monopolar radiofrequency (Thermage) with micro-focused ultrasound with visualisation (Ultherapy) on the face and upper neck. Both sides improved, with no statistically significant difference in standardised laxity scores, satisfaction or side effects. The practical lesson is that choosing the right candidate and the right tool for the layer that has changed matters more than the brand; see Thermage vs HIFU vs Ultherapy.
A case series and literature review of complications reported mostly short-lived effects such as welts, bruising and tenderness, and uncommon temporary nerve effects, most of which recovered. These risks are lower when depth is confirmed and energy is placed away from bone and nerve paths, which is the purpose of the imaging.

| Likely to see clear change | Likely to see less | Better served by |
|---|---|---|
| Early jowling, mild loose skin under the chin | Heavy jowls with skin excess | A surgical opinion |
| A slightly heavy brow | A brow lowered by strong frowning habits | Anti-wrinkle injections for the frown |
| Reasonable skin thickness | Very thin faces with little soft tissue | Conservative settings, or volume restoration first |
| Stable weight and sun habits | Fullness that is mainly fat | Fat-reducing energy or a different plan |
| Crepey neck skin with mild descent | Crepey skin with no descent | Radiofrequency such as Thermage FLX or VF Lift – Vertical Facelift |
Age is a weaker predictor than the cause of the change. Someone in their fifties with good skin and early jowling may see more than someone in their thirties whose fullness is fat. Is Ultherapy worth it? sets out the decision in more detail.
“Ultherapy lets me see the layers before I place the energy. It does not let anyone skip the wait: the result is built by your own collagen over months.”
Your own photographs are the record. Before treatment, standardised photographs are taken from the front, at three-quarter angles and in profile, in fixed lighting and head position. At review, the same set is taken and compared side by side with you. Jawline contour, the angle under the chin and brow height are compared in like-for-like images, not from memory or a phone camera, where a slight tilt changes everything.
If the change at three months is less than expected, the reasons are discussed: sometimes the main problem was volume or fat rather than laxity, sometimes a second session or a different tool would add more. The aim is a result that looks like you, rested and firmer, not a different face.
General clinical observations used at consultation; they describe what is checked, not any individual result.
Ultherapy is for gradual age-related laxity. Some changes have other causes and are assessed first.
These are investigated before any lifting treatment.

The new collagen is your own and ages with the rest of your face, so results do not stop the clock; they reset it a little. Many people consider a maintenance session about once a year, though the interval is set at review against your photographs rather than fixed in advance. Sun protection, a stable weight and not smoking help results hold. What sets the cost, including the number of lines and areas, is explained in Ultherapy price in Singapore. The consultation fee at IN Eternity Clinic is S$120, waived with any medical treatment.
Visible change usually starts from about six to eight weeks, is judged at around three months, and can continue to about six months as collagen remodels. Early tightness on the day is mostly swelling.
For many people with mild to moderate laxity, one session is the plan, reviewed at about three months. Some faces benefit from a second session or from adding radiofrequency or volume treatment. Maintenance is often considered around a year later.
It varies with age, skin quality, sun exposure and weight. The new collagen ages with the rest of the face, so many people consider maintenance about once a year, timed at review.
That is common. By four weeks the swelling has gone but new collagen has not yet built. Visible change usually appears from six to eight weeks, and the fair comparison is at about three months.
Both are focused ultrasound at similar depths. Ultherapy adds real-time imaging to confirm depth during treatment, which helps in thinner faces and over bone; HIFU platforms such as Ultraformer MPT use fixed-depth cartridges and a line mode many find more comfortable. Results follow a similar timeline.
Uncommonly. Possible effects include welts, bruising, tenderness and temporary nerve effects. In very thin faces, excess energy can cause hollowing, which is why settings are matched to tissue thickness confirmed on imaging.
IN Eternity Clinic does not publish patient photographs or patient endorsements to advertise treatment, in line with Singapore’s rules on healthcare advertising. Your own result is judged on standardised photographs taken before treatment and at review.
Ultherapy Prime is the newer version of the Ultherapy system used at IN Eternity Clinic. It keeps micro-focused ultrasound with real-time imaging; the comparison with the earlier system is covered in a separate guide.
